"All the Trimmings" Scarf

Yesterday I got an email from a reader who just "inherited" a bag of lace trimmings. She asked me if I had any advice as to what to use them for, and I shamelessly admitted that I've had the same bag of goodies sitting in my craft room for about a year. So one of the ideas I threw out was to just sew them all together onto a throw or a scarf. As soon as the image flashed in my head, I knew that I had to make myself one, too! And I did :o)

All it took was to cut a 10" strip off of my 60" wide white fleece.....

Pin each of my lace/crochet trimmings onto the fleece in a strait line....

And sew them on with my machine! Scandalously easy.

And there you have it: a pretty little vintage-inspired scarf.

I like it as a wrap/shawl too. I wish I'd thought to make one for my wedding dress!

You can tell I put a lot of work into this photo shoot; no makeup, unbrushed hair....you're lucky I wasn't in my jammies! :o)

A close-up of the lacy loveliness; I just can't get enough of this kind of thing!

Unless a miricle happens, I probably won't see you until after Christmas, so goodbye for a few days everybody! Happy Christmas!
God bless you!!

I absolutely love the scarf and even though I am not the slightest bit talented in making things -- I am more of an observer and buyer --
I think I'll try this one.

Hope you are having a Merry Christmas!!

  30. I love it!!! It is sooooo beautiful!!! I whish I had so many beautiful trimmings and could make myself one!!! Thank you so much for the inspiration! (I did use the Tshirt scarf tutorial - using leftovers of black jersey but haven't taken a nice photo of it yet since I find it very difficult to take nice pictures of black clothes - especially in winter). I love your blog!

  34. I just love this idea and I certainly have enough laces and insertions to make one. I even have hand make lace from my grnadmother's basket. Don't know how old the lace is but MY Mom is now 91. After trying one like the sample I hope to use some of my better pieces on a fine batise or linen and make it more heirloom like. This would be great for some simple Spring dresses and for Mother's Day. Jimmy

I found my way here via someone on PInterest who'd pinned someone who'd linked you... and I'm kinda stuck. You don't mind if I stalk you, do you? ;)

  37. I live in So. Fl where most days are in the hi 80s or 90s. love scarves but don't wear them due to the heat, especially backed with fleece. BUT!!!! I got a piece of light-weight eyelet fabric and used it for my backing. The lace trimming looks just as beautiful , tho not too heavy to wear on this rapidly heating planet! I am considering doing it to both sides now. So that the trim is reversible...Might be too scrathcy , tho. I will see. cabarabol@yahoo.com

  38. Beautiful, I was wondering if you finished the edges of the scarf in any way or just left them as is?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thank you! I did not finish the edges, since fleece doesn't fray. If you want to use a fabric that unravels on the edge then definitely hem each side first. :o)

  39. ARE THE ENDS OF THE SCARF HEMMED IN ORDER TO KEEP THE ENDS OF THE LACE FROM UNRAVELING?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, since I used fleece, which doesn't fray or unravel, it doesn't need hemming.

  40. Thanks for the brilliant idea.
I have a garage full of lovely laces, literally 1000's of metres of lace & trims that I can't seem to get rid of, so I'm going to try this on left over silk fabrics that I also have.
