My Name In Print! (and other ramblings)

Back in October, I was contacted by Beth Livesay, the managing editor for Stampington & Company, asking if they could feature a few of my necklaces in the premier issue of their new magazine, Jewelry Affaire.
And today, I got my issue in the mail! (Thanks, Beth!) I could have just wet my pants, I was so excited. I've never had anything in print before, so I'm pretty excited about it! :o)

"Jewelry Affaire" is a magazine about....well, jewelry! It's chock full of amazing pieces, and most of them have directions on how to recreate them. My necklaces are nowhere near the prettiest in there, I give such credit to all the designers who's creations are featured! If you're into jewelry (and even if you're not!), I definitely recommend picking up a copy. The magazine will be available in stores on April 1st, I believe, so keep your eyes peeled for it! :o)

And speaking of Stampington & Co, and dearest Ms. Livesay, she is also the generous heart who donated the issues of "Altered Couture" for the "Ruffle Your Stuff" contest! Since I discovered this magazine (which is almost a book, really), I completely fell in love with it. Full of amazing refashions and recycled clothes, by all kinds of indie designers(much like you and I!). And did you know that you can submit your creations to be considered for a feature in it? I have a little shirt coming up in the summer issue, and if I can get in, surely you can, too! :o) Check out the submission guidelines here. Why not give it a shot??
So that was my exciting news for the day!
And it came at just the right time, because I've been feeling a bit melancholy lately, over nothing in particular. Do you ever get that way? I was even considering shutting down my blog after the contest is over. (I know, right?!? Silly, moody, artistic people....) Don't worry, I'm sure I won't. I think I would miss you all too much! And you can't beat a hobby that costs almost nothing, and makes the world prettier :o)

Take care, dear friends!

  14. Disney,

I am so excited for you. That is quite an accomplishment.

I think if you were to shut down your blog, you would regret it later. Look at all you have built in such a short time, and it would all be gone. You don't want to have to start over if you wanted to start it up again. You are helping a lot of people with your blog, and you don't even know it, not to mention it's a creative outlet for you. So I think it is a very important part of your life.

And remember that lack of sleep and hormones will affect your mood. Never make important decisions based on your emotions. Always, always take time to think it over and seek wise counsel. By time, I don't mean just a couple of days.

    Again, congratulations!

  15. Congratulations! I can Imagine you smiling till cheak-ache!

  16. Oh my goodness, that's not even funny. I would miss your blog so much as would I'm sure hundreds of women. We all get to feeling a little blue and that's okay as long as we pick ourselves up and get right back to doing what we know we should do...in your case that's creating and sharing...Thanks.

  17. Disney, a few more thoughts. I totally understand how you must feel. You do so much with your blog and you have a family to take care of as well. I'm sure it must be overwhelming at times, and you may even feel burned out. I would not recommended closing down your blog, however, because you have so much good content on here; and it is a good reference for others. I would suggest, though, that when you feel like this, just taking a break. You could even take month off from blogging. Let us all know that you are going vacation and when you expect to be back. You won't lose your readers or your traffic. Everyone loves you too much. They'll just be here waiting for you when you are ready to come back. You could also cut back on how often you post and other blog responsibilities if you don't wish to be that busy. I know how difficult it is to juggle blogging and family and that you don't want your family to suffer. But I think you can find the balance. Pray about it.

Your friend and sister in Christ,

    Trudy

  33. Congratulations Disney :) Great pics, and as always, beautiful jewlery! I think Deveraux was my favorite.
I am drawn to your blog because of the beauty and joy that shines through both your creations and your words. You encourage me to do more with my talents. As you know, God didn't give us these gifts to be squandered on ourselves. He did it to bring Himself glory. Even a simple piece of jewlery can lead to a life changing discussion. Thank you for all that you do, and here's a *HUG* for those difficult moments that remind us not to get too comfortable here.

  34. I would be ever so sad if you shut down your blog, please stay.....forever. Your site is so inspiring to me, puts a smile on my face every morning. Your blog is the one I go to every morning and check first thing. You have inspired me to try my hand at a lot of new things I never thought possible, such as re-purposing clothing for my 10 year old daughter. She had several t shirts that were too short for her to wear. We took some old shirts that she didn't like anymore and added some length and then used the left over material to make some flowers and different designs and sewed them on. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks to you I also challenged myself to not buy any new clothing for 3 months, I have so many clothes that I can alter already why waste the money. God can use my clothing money better than I can. Again thank you.

I love your blog and look forward to your posts in my Reader. One of my resolutions this year was to explore my creative side and your blog is very inspiring; I would be sad if I could no longer lurk around and bookmark projects I would like to try in the future. I have two boys, ages 10 months and almost 3 years, and I check your blog for new postings (might I even say?) obsessively.

I am so, so thankful that I found Ruffles 'n Stuff amidst all various blogs floating around cyberspace, because you lend a smile to my day and a warmth to my heart ALL THE TIME.. (even though I don't have a girl... Rrr)

So please, even amidst the blues, remember that we really, really appreciate you and all the time you put into your picture-taking, blogging, and creating.

As for Jewelry Affair, Brava! Brava!

I think we probably all get that way. It's a funny thing about writing a blog, you absolutely, positively fall in love with your readers & the blog but at the same time it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. I know I definitely get in craft funks from time to time, call it crafter's PMS. (:

Just know we've all been there but don't you dare shut down your adorable blog because I'll have to stalk your ruffly butt down & make you keep blogging! It's one of my favorites!

  63. Disney,

I love your jewelry. My absolute pleasure to have you in two of my magazines. There are days when I want to close up shop on my blog as well. But if I did I would surely regret it. Keep the jewelry coming. Next deadline is 5/15/10. Blessings!

  64. The only time I was ever in print was when a painting of mine ended up in a brochure for my old college.
Even that was exciting, so I know having a whole little article must be so amazing!

  65. Disney! Congrats girl your jewelry looks amazing in the magazine!! Don't shut down your blog. It inspires me so much as well as so many other people. One day you might be like Pioneer Woman and have a movie made b/c of you blog. (if you don't know who I'm talking about go to http://thepioneerwoman.com/ and check her out).

Or you could take a break and get some guest bloggers to help out while your gone. That would be a great way to keep your blog up and running and you get a break! :)

Sending lots of hugs and happy thoughts your way.
