Kitchen Message Board

The theme in my kitchen (or in my mind, for my kitchen) is sort of a juxtaposition of the rustic and natural, and the ridiculously fancy, all in neutrals shades. ("Juxtaposition"....fun word!)

Like this:

& this!

So far I have these two things:
My husband bought me this cutting board and spoon rest from Ross for practically noting. Yay, Ross!

So, I recycled my old cutting board to make this!

Because a person can only stand to say "Hold on, let me find a pen..." so many times!
Take an old cutting board...(and I don't know why it came out looking so gross in this photo...)

Drill a couple of holes in the top to hang it from, and super-glue some lonely clip-on earring to the bottom to hold notes. So easy!

I also glued some sparklies to the tops of some push-pins as well. :o)

Then you can tie a pencil to one of the holes you drilled. I wanted a natural look, so I sawed off the eraser and carved the outside off with a pocket knife. Then I glued a pearl on top. A little excessive maybe, but I want what I want. :o)
Then you can just hang it on two nails, or you can use string, rope, etc. to hang it up all pretty-like!
I wanted to use a vintage pearl necklace to hang it, but I was afraid it might be a little too vintage to hold up the heavy board. So I used several strands of fishing twine, and then glued the necklace to the front. no one will ever know! Except you guys I guess. :o)

Then I tried to cover a couple of weird outlet covers with it. It almost worked!

This photo came out so cheesy!
 It's like:
Now, I'm sure that you could probably go to Target and find something for $5 to hold your phone messages, but where's the fun in that? Besides walking around Target, I mean.

So that was a fun project that only took an hour! This wasn't the tutorial I was working on before I got the flu, so I'll have to share that later. But it was kinda fun, so I thought I'd share!

I hope you're having just one of your best days ever! :o)
Take care!
