A Little More Foxy?

I wanted to make a little stuffed fox. It was so cute in my imagination, and actually I was fairly pleased with the way it turned out. (Other than the fact that I forgot to add a tail!)

But then I showed it to my husband and the conversation went something like this:

me: "Look! I made this! Can you tell what it is?"
husband: "Er, um, hmm.....uh, I don't know?"
me: "(frown) It's a fox!!"
husband: "Oh! Yeah! That's what I thought it was." :O)

So I went back to the sewing room and made a few tweaks, and this is how it came out; a little more foxy?
(It has a tail!)

Something in me still likes the pink one, probably because it's pink and polka-dotted. And I think I like the nose on the pink one a little better.

Anyway, I was going to make a pattern to share with you, but I guess I need to know whether to call it a fox or a cat? :o) What does it look like to you?

  1. It's definately a fox! :) That tail is super cute. I love the brown one, but agree with you about the nose.

  2. More fox than cat. I had to re-check the pictures when you suggested it looks like a cat. But without that stereotypical loopy W shaped cat mouth, it definitely screams fox. Well done, it's adorable!

  3. It's a fox alright! I prefer the brown one but with the nose of the first one with the uneven edges. It's much nicer!

  4. It's a fox! I would make a cat more rounded, and cosy, whilst a fox is a bit more angular and feral.

  5. It's a fox! But I too like the nose on the pink one better. And the ears. I think the skinnier ears on the pink one are more fox-like than the brown.

  6. I think that's an adorable fox! It reminds me of my dog (the brown one, obviously lol!) - I have a shiba inu, and we call him "dox" because he looks like a cross between a dog and a fox.

  7. Super cute! Its definitely foxy! Cant wait for the pattern!

  8. I probably would have guessed cat if I'd just seen the pink one. But the brown one definitely makes me think fox! (and the tail is ADORABLE!)

  14. I asked my 4 year old what it was and even she knew it was a fox! :)

  19. Definitely foxy! the brown one only looks more "foxy" because of the colour being more realistic. But who says softies need to be realistic!?!
    Very cute and fun!

Have you ever seen "You've got Mail" with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks... Tom Hanks' last name in the movie is Fox and his small kidbrother spells the name in the bookshop of Meg Ryan... I just thought of that when I wrote Fox...

  31. I like the skiddywompus-ness of the nose on the pink one. A little whimsical and imperfect, my favorite. I say put that nose on the brown and call it good!

  36. I agree with Bethany- the pointy snout is a dead giveaway that this is a fox. However with some slight facial modifications people could turn it into a cat or pointy eared dog if they prefer.

  37. It's a fox. Foxes have pointy noses, cat's don't.

  38. Husbands are funny. I get this often too. I made a bird and my husband thought it was a whale. haha. oh whale :-) anyways, I totally think it looks like a FOX. F. O. X. fox. (love the movie "You've Got Mail"). Great job sister! a pattern would be fantastic! and just so you know I am so happy to see you posting more often. I was super sad about this time last year...
