Pippa and Rascal- A Free Softie Pattern!
OK, I've failed. I can't figure out where to upload a pdf pattern so that you can all download it without having to sign up for something! Sooo.....we're just going to enjoy the pattern here on the blog for now until I get that set up. Sound good? Good!
Here it is!
I did as you all suggested and combined the two prototype foxes to make a perfect little fox, who I've name "Pippa" (no, not after that Pippa). I also created a slightly variated version; a raccoon named "Rascal"!
As I was making them, I developed little personalities for them in my mind. Do you ever do that? I had this ridiculous little notion that Pippa and Rascal were great friends who've known each other since childhood, and even though they pretend to be annoyed at each other's differences, they are secretly kind of in love with each other.
(OK. I know. I have no life.) :o)
Of course, "Rascal" can be a "Regina" and "Pippa" could be a "Peter", just choose a different fabric and it can be for a boy or girl!
You could even make your own felt bows or bow ties for them. Just have fun!
:o)
Here's the how-to:
· Print the pattern pieces at the bottom of the post and use them to cut out the instructed amount of pieces from your choice of fabric. Use felt for the facial features, tummy and tail pieces.
· Place the felt pieces on desired areas and sew on with matching thread (be sure to match up the tail stripes!).
· Pin the leg, arm, ear and tailpieces on top of each other, with right sides facing.
· Sew together, leaving the top of the arms and legs open, and the bottom of the ears and tail open.
· To move along the curves easily, while the needle is down, lift the presser foot and move the fabric over slightly. Lower the presser foot and continue sewing.
· Cut small notches in around the curved seams, or trim with pinking shears.
· Turn right side out and press.
· Then stuff arms and legs with polyester filling
· Baste the openings of arms and legs closed.
· Then pin and baste the arms, ears and tail to the front body piece as pictured.
· Put the back body piece over the front body piece, right sides facing and arms, ears and tail sandwiched in-between.
· Sew together, leaving the bottom end open.
· Turn right side out.
· Pin and baste legs to the front body piece.
· Stuff the body.
· Fold under the edges of the front and back body pieces, and pin well.
· Stitch closed using a slip stitch.
All done!

ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! Didn't you use Scrib'd before for the book you made? Maybe you didn't like how that turned out? Someday I will make time to sew all the cute little things you make! I enjoy your site and reading about your family.
ReplyDelete~nicole
haha, those are too adorable, and I love the personalitites you came up with for them! :) You can host pdf's with google docs, it's on the drop down menu on google's homepage...
ReplyDeleteDisney,
ReplyDeleteThat's very, very cute.
You can upload PDF's for free on google's gmail site. It's called google docs.
These are wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing the pattern with us. My niece has just gotten into stuffed animals, and I'm sure this will make her day!
ReplyDeleteUse Google Doc's, if possible. It is free, and you don't have to sign up for anything.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!
Awesome, I love the quilt your sweetie Paige is laying on. I can't belive how cute you style everything. If you made the quilt another awesome tut please?
ReplyDeleteI envision Rascal in a reddish orange - he'd make a great Swiper - which is right up my sweet one's alley!
ReplyDeleteHaha! "Swiper, no swiping!"-you're so right! He also reminds me of the raccoon in Pocahontas.
ReplyDeleteHand to forehead! WHY didn't I think of Google Docs?? I'll look into that.
LOVE this, thank you so much!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to make one!
Seriously cute! I love Rascal's playboy style pose. I might have to make one of these (which means I'll make one and it'll be so stinking cute that I will have to make 5 more)! Thanks for sharing your pattern!!
ReplyDeleteso cute! Pinning now! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJust a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave today [26 Jun 01:00am GMT]. Thanks, Maria
ReplyDeleteA great (free) place to load files you'd like to display via embed and allow others to print and download is: http://embedit.in/
ReplyDeleteVery cute, btw! :)
I don't know what i like best: the softies themselves or the little story about their personalities. just too cute!
ReplyDeleteThey're fantastic! And I do invent personalities, too. Always have, never stopped.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like that they're rectagonal. A long time ago, my mom made a pig pillow cover for my dad (he loves pigs) in a similar manner. It makes me think these could be made as fun pillow covers, too!
But... Rascal?

P.S. Rascal in reddish orange/rust, slightly altered, could also be a Red Panda! One of my favourite animals when I was a child - I used to play I was a red panda.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. Now I've just realised that I have rust upholstery velvet, in a darker and lighter colour - perfect for a red panda. I have other use for it in mind, but if I have some leftovers... I could be able to FINALLY have that red panda character I made up as a child!
...vielen Dank, für die tolle Beschreibung.
ReplyDeleteEinen scönen Sonntag,Christiane

CUTE! I totally had to pin this to pinterest. =)
ReplyDeleteI recently had the same PDF problem for my blog,Hammer & Thread. I have a google account just for the blog so I used google documents to upload it and made it so I could share with anyone that then just linked to the document on the blog post, a tutorial for simple toddler lounge pants.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! THX a lot for the patterns :)
ReplyDeleteI love them! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny!!! For real, I love their interests and such! I think I'm more like Rascal, or I guess Regina, if she's into what Rascal's into. "JUNK DRAWERS" is so funny! I seriously can't over your cleverness over here!
ReplyDelete.....still laughing
ReplyDeleteThese are just fantastic, thank you so much for sharing. Will have to make a few for the little girls and boys in my life. Maybe one for me too. :)
ReplyDelete"The ladies".
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Goodness. Rascal makes me laugh out loud!
Thanks for the great patterns!!
Genevieve
I grew up in the midwest (raccoon central) but my kids are growing up in the west, hence my daughter walks by and says..."Oh look at the cute kitties..." So, I guess they could be cats too?
ReplyDeleteDarling!
Thank you so much for the patterns. I cannot wait to make them. :)
ReplyDeleteSoooooooooooo cute - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJust cut my pattern pieces, now to find some cute fabric from my stash! Thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteCute Pattern!! Thank you! Try pdfcast.org for uploading pdf files.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I have not uploaded a pattern to BurdaStyle so I don't know if the PDFs are hosted by BS or separately, but it could be a great place to put your pattern. There are a couple toy patterns up, but not many.

So adorable! I had to make one ASAP for my kiddos! I used a pink polkadot for my daughters and now my son wants one just like your brown and orange/tan(?) polka dot. Where is that fabric from?
ReplyDeleteAlso, did I miss it--what was your seam allowance? I used 1/4" for most of it and it turned out okay.
Thank you, thank you. You rock! :)
They are SOOO cute! I can't wait to make one!
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! I love the flower pattern you used on Pippa.
ReplyDeleteYou can upload the PDF on Google Docs for free.
These are so adorable! I wish I had an excuse to make them.
ReplyDeleteHaha, so cute! I love the personalities that you created for them. Rascal cracked me up after cute, put-together Pippa. Love them! I want to create a softie this summer. That should be one of my goals. Will Pippa let me borrow her To Do List?
ReplyDeleteThese are so so cute! Thanks you, Disney!
ReplyDeleteLove your cute critters! Others have mentioned it, but I also used Google docs to post patterns to my blog and it worked out well. Only a few people emailed me with troubles and it turned out that they not clicking the right buttons. I recommend it! :)
ReplyDeleteDisney... I made something similar to Rascal a couple weeks ago, it was a variation on an owl pattern... He looked a little like a masked avenger! It came about because I was playing with bits of felt on the pattern before sewing.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, haven't been around for a while so just read through loads of your stuff and as always completely inspired. Just wish I had the time to do everything!!

ReplyDeleteI love these! And trimming curves with pinking sheers??? Genius!!
ReplyDeleteI know it's a little late for this but you might be able to use Google Docs. I've never put anything up on there but my work does that sometimes. If you didn't already try that. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE their personality traits! Crazy adorable!
ReplyDeleteThey are too cute! Love it! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI made the mistake of reading this blog post with my granddaughter tucked into my side. Great story and I got hooked into the characters right away, guess I'll have to write my own sequels when the cuties I make are completed. Thank-you for making such a lovely tutorial that was fun and easy to follow.
ReplyDeleteI love these two, they're so adorable! However, when I printed the pattern pieces, they came out kinda small, and the made-up softies in your pictures don't look nearly that small! Did I do something wrong? I'm still stitching up at least one (for now! lol) to give to my daughter for her birthday (which is tomorrow, YIKES! I better get sewing!) but I think I'll need to print out a new copy and take it to a copy store to have it enlarged. Unless you can tell me what I may have done wrong? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!!! I love your sweet blog!!!
ReplyDeleteCaterina@LemieScarpeRosa
Thanks so much for sharing this pattern, and making the animals so much cooler by adding personality traits!! i love that!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm not doing it right but I can't print the templates. When I click the link to enlarge them and click to print, it will only print the entire article on your blog. It won't print "selection only". Any ideas???
ReplyDeleteThese are the CUTEST little things I've ever seen!!!! Thank you SO much for sharing & for the free patterns!!!!
ReplyDeleteso cute and fun. thank you very much
ReplyDeleteMònica from Barcelona, in small Catalonia.
I have made several of these for family members. Now I have friends asking to buy them from me. I see that your pattern is copyrighted. Is there a way to sell these once I've made them, and give you the credit?
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! I hope you don't mind I linked to your post. I wanted to share your cute pattern with my readers. :)
