Thrifting Bliss

I hope this doesn't sound materialistic, but isn't stuff just kinda fun? Shopping for stuff is fun. And shopping for stuff that's practically free? Really fun.

That's why I love shopping at thrift stores. It's like the dollar store, only with stuff you'd actually want! And since bargain hunting is no fun unless you gab with your friends about it, I wanted to share a few of my recent thrifted finds with you guys. Like these gorgeous wooden bowls for just over ten cents each! (I'm on the biggest wood kick right now for some reason.)

A Plaid tunic and vintage belt:

Vintage remnants: Yes!!

Loved this skirt and shirt. And bonus--they were handmade!

This game is for Paige. Really, it is.... :o)

True story: I have been looking at this wrapping since the first time I went to our local thrift store a year ago! I never got it because it didn't have a sticker and I was too scared to ask how much it was. ( I know. Pathetic.) :O)  Sailboats make me so happy!

Did any of you have a little suitcase like this when you were a kid? I think I might have had a Care Bears one. I just couldn't resist it! Paige will love packing it up for a trip to Grandma's.

And my absolute favorite recent find: these awesome wheels! I couldn't believe it when I saw these on the shelf and they were my size. What are the odds? And I really needed....roller skates....right? :O)

So there are a few of the fun things I've found lately. Are you so ready to hit the thrift stores now?? If you've never checked out your smaller, local thrift stores you should do it! The larger chain thrift stores are all right, but I always have much more luck at the stores that you have to hunt for. And don't forget, yard sale season! I always find my fabric and crafting supplies at yard sales and thrift stores. I love the thrill of the hunt!

Have a great day today!
Love,
Disney

  1. What? You got some great stuff! I wish I could find really awesome stuff like that at our thrift stores. I LOVE those bowls and that suitcase. Awesome.

  2. I know what you mean... the bigger chain thrift stores have so jacked up their prices, and I don't understand! Don't we shop at thrift stores to find bargains? Not to pay a dollar or two less than you could buy it new for?? :)

  3. I had a suitcase just like that, except mine was red, not pink! I loved it.

  4. LOVE IT!! I am so itching to get to my local thrift stores now :)

I think those roller skates were meant for you too ... last pair, in your size -- what else does that mean but destiny?

  5. Amazing finds! I had a Care Bears suitcase when I was a kid.

Those are some great prices. I feel like a lot of thrift stores around where I live are more expensive.

  6. I LOVE the bowls and those roller skates are to die for! I LOVE thrift stores and I am totally addicted to them. Thrifting is harder being overseas especially when it comes to finding vintage items at the on base thrift stores. I was super excited today when I found records and a hard shell suitcase. I can finally get around to some of those fun upcycled projects I have been wanting to do.

  7. I love thrift stores! And I'm not talking goodwill-I mean the little cramped, filled to the brim, local yocal, Holy cow that's only $1 thrift stores! LOVE them! But I've been way too busy to go thrifting lately, so I plan to go on Wednesday! I can't wait!!

  10. Oh My Stars! What great finds! I wish I could find clothing that was really awesome at my thrift stores; I can usually only find thrifted sheets. Wonderful prices on that "stuff" as well. My mom says the same thing: Sometimes you just want to look for stuff, and I agree.

  17. I love vintage! Would you ever consider doing a post on how to know if something is considered vintage or not? I love the idea of vintage but sometimes I’m not sure if what I’m looking at is really antique or just a vintage replica.

  24. Man I need to find where your thrift stores are! the ones around me are awful, that is unless i want a computer from the 1980's! lol

  25. Those bowls are adorable!Your thrift store is a lot cheaper than mine - very few non-clothing items are donated at all.

  26. Wow! Such great finds. Here, we have charity shops, and unless you're in the super-posh areas, of, say, London, it's mainly just grannies. Needless to say, I've found a lot of fabulous silk scarves and also a flapper skirt, and a few brilliant books, including a hardback biography of Ingrid Bergman for £2.

  27. I had that exact suite case (still do) except mine is brown. I loved it and still do! I should dig it out.

  28. i just recently discovered a free thrift store on the southern seminary campus in louisville..i had to hunt but was able to find three pieces of tableware (that i put together to make a d.i.y. cakestand!) and an old shirt of the cutest fabric (which is way too small so i'm going to use the fabric for making my own cards). i've been thinking a lot lately about how much fun it is to find the kind of almost-free stuff you're talking about! :)

  29. Great Finds! I had the pink suitcase (only in blue). I loved it and took it to Grandma's of course. It's from the 80s. A little jealous of your finds. :)

  30. I have that suitcase in red! My mom bought it for me when I was about 4. :) Now my son uses it. We also had about 5 pairs of those roller skates. I swear I'm not old enough to remember using these vintage things the first time around!... maybe they were second hand back then, too. :) (I AM only 29...)

  31. so cute!!! you've got great taste. I only recently started going to thrift stores. I have a couple aunts who are absolute pros as thrifting and rummage saling. Jealous!

  32. I had that very same suitcase in red, it had those same "stickers" on it!

  33. Wowie. You have better thrift stores than I do. Or maybe I just don't have the eye for it yet. Amazing finds!

  36. There is a thrift store walking distance from my parents' house that regularly has sales on their clothing - everything for 50 cents! Most everything is irredeemable, but at that price, it's worth spending 30 min really searching through the racks! I've found some really awesome other little things there too. We just moved to a new part of town, and I'm itching to explore a whole new set of thrift stores.

  37. I live in the wrong area of the country, our thrift stores hold nothing as sweet as your finds! I love that plaid shirt, the wrapping paper and those skates. It makes me long for my old pair!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I want that game! Does Paige like to share? :) JK...I'll just have to scout for my own now. Those wheels are awesome, btw.

  39. We're on a wooden bowl kick as well. The kiddos keep smashing our breakables on our new tile floor and we detest plastic. My favorite find was the little wooden plates shaped like apples. I love them!

  40. Oh man, I wish you would take me shopping with you! I try so hard to find cool things at Thrift Stores :( No luck as of yet...

  43. The shoes that made those roller skates are what I wanted as a child; I had a great pair of "Dyna - Kids" knock-offs from K-Mart. I thought that as a teenager, I wanted the "real" version of those shoes, Farah Fawcett hair and a black Trans-Am.

By the time I was a teen, I'm so glad those things didn't happen!

You have such a keen eye for treasures, Disney!
