Hanging Words Tutorial

I realized the other day that I never shared this idea that I did for Bella Magazine last year!
I made the "peace" sign at the end of this post for the magazine, but I didn't think the colors were fun enough to share, so I made these for Paige's room last night:

I love the cheery message: "HUG", "SMILE", "LOVE" :o) and I'm so thrilled to have something to fill that huge space above her headboard!  It was simple to do--hooray--and I loved digging through my paper stash to find just the right colors.

It was also the perfect craft to work on when you're under the weather, which Paige and I have been the last few days. So we cut and glued together while watching "The Jungle Book", the songs from which are still stuck in my head. ("I wanna be like you-u-u, zoo-be-doo-be-dooby...")

Want to make some? Here's how!

  •  Paste two 6" circles together back-to-back to make one circle for each letter. Card stock or regular paper is fine.

  • Print out the letters you need and use a craft knife to cut them out. Use the remaining paper as a stencil to cut the letters out of your circles.

It should look like this when you're done-pretty!

  • Then simply poke a hole in the top and bottom...

  • And thread fishing twine through to tie the circles together.

Hang from the ceiling and you're done! "Peace" of cake. :O) ha. ha.

Hope you enjoy!

I think this would be a great way to decorate a boy's room, too. If your son has a nautical themed room you could spell "ships" and "ahoy" or "take + the + helm" or something cute like that? Or if his daddy's in the military you could do "Semper + fi" or whatever. It would also be pretty all in black paper with a script font if you have a silhouette machine. Tons of options!

Have a sensational day!!

Love,
Disney

  5. Hi Disney, I did something so similar few weeks back. One is a simple colored paper circle mobile and another one is a paper circles curtain. I have posted the pics at my blog - http://flowersncolors.blogspot.com. I liked your idea of cutting out words on the paper.

  6. I love this idea. What an easy idea for a mobile for a baby's room too (maybe smaller circles or short words so it's not hanging IN the crib! :)

  7. Oh, you made me smile. When our daughter was quite young, and not speaking well yet, she loved The Jungle Book movie. Only she called it "Dooby" because of the song you mentioned. :o)
Loved your post, simple idea & very cute!
