Bet You Can't Guess...

What our headbands are made of!
OK, maybe you can.
Rubber gloves!

Before you think: "OK, she's lost it." I have to explain that I go through rubber gloves like they are paper towels. I have to wear them for everything (I hate getting my hands wet for some reason!) and it seems like by day two I've put a hole in them. It's a complete mystery to me how this happens. Do I slit them with a knife doing dishes? Are my nails just that sharp? It drives me nuts.

So today before I tossed this pair into the trash I thought: "Surely there is something...ah-ha!" I sliced up the cuff and ta-da! Hair elastics. They work amazingly well! The staying power of a rubber band without the ouchiness. As long as you're wearing yellow, you're in business. ;o)

If you're feeling really adventurous, sew two together and make a headband! Again, awesome staying power. And comfy!

(Strawberry face)
Is that too weird? I'm not sure I'd brave the headband, but Paige can get away with wearing garbage. :o)

Have you ever repurposed rubber gloves? I'm sure there are more things I can do with them. The way I go through these things, I'll need all the ideas I can get!

Have a great Wednesday!

Love,
Disney

  3. What a lovely idea! Besides, Paige would even look cute in a garbage BAG, so a garbage headband is just fine!

  6. That is too cute. Way to recycle!

By the way...if you think your nails are punching the holes in your gloves, try sticking cotton balls at the ends of each finger. My Gram told me that, and it works pretty darn well.

  8. That headband looks pretty cute, and good to know it works well as hair ties! When I first saw the top picture, my thought was "Oh your daughter look so adorable and grown up!" Then I took a second look and thought maybe it was you. Now I feel really silly but I can't figure out if it's you or your daughter. Regardless, the person appearing in the top picture looks pretty friggin' cute with the headband.

  10. Cute idea!
I used to go through rubber gloves like that too until I started buying the sturdier ones (they usually come in pink or purple). One pair last several months, plus then you'll have new colors for your hair accessories!

  11. I have actually done the same thing for years, but I mostly use them in place of rubber bands. I never thought of using them as hair bands. Now they can have dual purposes in my house. Upcycling is always good in my book!

  12. ohmygosh this is fantastic! I go through rubber gloves so quickly because of holes -- now I can do something with them. We have purple, too!:)

  13. Wow! Sheer brilliance, Disney! Pinning this right away! I have two little sisters, and rubber glove hair accessories would be perfect for them! And I have way this hair, so I'm always looking for elastics that will actually stay. I'll have to try this! Thanks for sharing your cute creativity, girl! :)

  15. Here's what I do with Rubber Gloves!

    Tubby Finger Puppets

They've held up remarkably well and the kids love them!

  16. Little squares cut from rubber gloves work great for quilting. You know when the needle is stuck and your fingers are too slippery to pull it the rest of the way out. The square provides just enough grip. The thicker gloves work a little better than the thin ones.

  19. Cool! I can't stand washing dishes without gloves either. I am going to definitely make these for my lil sis! Thanks so much for another great idea.

  21. I wear rubber gloves when doing dishes and cleaning the bathroom etc. and mine always get holes- usually the right hand first! then I try turning an extra left hand one inside out and wearing it on my right hand! Thanks for the idea of hair bands.

  28. What a cool idea! I am also mystified by the seemingly microscopic holes that render these glove non-waterproof.
Love the "strawberry face" and dimples :)

  29. I wear gloves all the time. I have cotton gloves that I wear sometimes under the rubber gloves, it helps protect the hands more and makes the rubber gloves last longer - suggested by my dermo since I have bad eczema.

Out of some of my old gloves we decorated them and made fun gloves.

  31. Why not slip the fingers (after you cut them off )over your fingers for sewing those quilts! I use the cut off fingers and slip them over pesky broom and mops ends. No more marking the walls, and they will grip the wall rather than ride it all the way down.
