"Vinchin"

Paige: "Mommy! Look at my hair bow, it's vinchin."

Me: "'Vinchin'"?

Paige: "Yeah!"

Me: "What's 'vinchin'?"

Paige: "You know, like you like. When it's like, kind of old and stuff."

Me: "...You mean vintage?"

Paige: "Yes! *thinks hard* Vinchage."

(Do I really use the term vintage enough for my five year old to know what it is?)

  6. That is good, because my first thought was that she was trying to say that her hair was b****in'. Vintage better. :-)

  9. Hahahaha, so cute! Rachel is just like her, because I have taken her with me on many thrift store trips. She knows my face lights up when I see vintage pillowcases, sheets and other items. It starts early. :)

  11. You falsify too much your daughter's speech. Little 5 years old girls don't speak or write (specially blogs) like she did.

  14. Anon: What a compliment to know that Paige sounds too smart to be true! :o) Haha, but I really can't take credit at all. God gives wonderful gifts to everyone. One of Paige's is that she learns very quickly.

  15. Very cute! Like Jenny I thought she was trying to say something else. I know you have a Christisn home but sometimes those outside influences slip in. She's one classy girl.

  16. Anon is silly. When a kid hears the same thing multiple times, they are going to pick up on it. I am shocked at some of the things my 2 and a half year old says. I cannot image when she is 5!

  17. Way to be observant and use fun words, Paige! It's awesome that you do that!

  18. Just the other day my 3 year old and I were doing the bed routine and I told him the sun was going down behind the mountains so it was bed time and he said
"no mom the sun always is in da sky! The earth just rolled over" my jaw dropped! Yes little ones hear us. I was just teaching this to my older daughter and my 3 year old heard it and remembered!
    CUte!

  20. Disney,

Never posted before, but just felt compelled. From one mother whose daughter is wise beyond her years to another, you have never come across as someone who needs to or ever would desire to embellish anything (other than, say, a sweater ; )for a blog post. My five year old is smarter than me, I tell her that all the time : ) Her mind works in a way that mine never has. She taught herself to read just by listening to us and following along as we read to her. She now reads better than many of my second grade students. She remembers everything. She says things like "Oh, I recall how to do that" or "I have no interest in getting a turtle, I want a fish". It cracks me up and amazes at the same time. I don't doubt for a second that your little cutie wrote and says the things you say. You two are cute as can be! Have a blessed day!

  21. Disney, I'm sure that you remember the story of me homeschooling your older siblings... and how you taught yourself to read by listening to our lessons. I didn't see it coming. Kids are amazing if adults are paying attention You have always amazed me. Paige is just perfect.

  23. I teach kindergarten so I know the extent of which 5 year old kids can pick up words or imitate speech that they hear. Unfortunately, in my school, lots of kids don't have the best influences to learn from. However, Paige is blessed to be surrounded by such positive influences like you and your husband, and her way of speaking is evidence of it! Kudos to you as a Mommy! :)

  24. I teach kindergarten as well and I do not doubt for a minute that your sweet daughter said these things. This person who thinks you embellished obviously doesn't know kids. So sad they feel they need to be mean too. Love your blog!

  25. This is why I don't allow anons to comment. So cowardly and mean!

  26. Love it! My daughter uses big words like that all the time. Too cute. Sorry mr. Anonymous should stop.

  27. Oh please don't be upset about this one comment. Good influences and much reading can really make a difference. When I was 6 years old and I was doing my homework for school, the teacher called me a liar and said that my parents dictate me the answers, because I knew to difficult words and my sentences were to long. They eventually stopped with that, after the first tests in school. ;)
Children are like a sponge, they absorb stuff, that other people say, in a good or in a bad way. My niece is three years old and she uses a lot of difficult words. She was frightend of thunder and my brother told her that it's actually only Thor swinging his hammer, she actually told this story in kindergarten to calm down the other children and is now interested in Germanic gods and she can pronounce the names. She really loves books and my brother reads a lot of children books and fairy tales to her and she often plays with older children and yes that is a big influence to her. I really don't see why children with good influences shouldn't be as smart as Paige.
Paige is such a cute little girl, I really enjoyed her tutorial. Not only in one second the idea crosses my mind, that you would embellish her words.

    Have a nice day!

  28. What a party pooper that Anon is! Does Anon have kids? Kids are sooo smart and pick up on everything you say. And no doubt Paige is a super bright chick-a-dee! I thought it was hilarious. Glad you can have a place to share & remember her conversations. It will be a precious memory one day!

  29. She is so darling, Disney! I love that she was using the word vintage. Lillie hears me say that word so often too and it's hilarious to hear the things that come out of her little three year old mouth. Especially when it comes to design! Anon's comment is so ridiculous - ugh!
