Goodies :O)
So every Monday morning Paige and I go grocery shopping for a lady at church who has Dercum's disease and this week we stayed to help go through some things in her garage. She wanted to know if we wanted to take any of it before she donated it to the thrift store.
Uh...cool vintage stuff for free? Yes, please!! We rescued some pretty cute things!
I loved these paper doll books. Do people really cut these things out or are they more of a collector's item? They're so pretty, I don't think I could ever use them!
And I had to grab these buttons. They totally took me back to the 80's! We had those "buckle up" ones.
Of course, I loved the Disney ones. :o)
And check out this sequined parrot appliqué. Awe! some. I think I'll add it to this shirt of Paige's. It would look adorable with the pink camera and beret!

MOLLY!!!
Can you believe that?! Molly stinking McIntire! Ok. Maybe that's not life-altering for you, but I'm living my childhood dream right now. I would have given anything for an American Girl doll when I was a little girl. Seriously, anything. My room, my brother, my legs, whatever it took. Of course, Samantha was my girl. But Molly was my second favorite. And now I have her!! She's mine! (Oh yeah...Paige's. Whatever.) I am just over the moon. About a child's toy, I know. But we're all children deep down, right?
She's so cute!
And that is what they mean when they say it pays to do good deeds. :O) haha. Now to dig out a thank you note.
Happy Tuesday/almost Wednesday! Paige has a little project she's been wanting to share with you for a while, but Mommy is taking forever to get photos. What keeps me from posting half the time is that I always think everything has to be a huge production. I can't just snap a few pictures randomly, I have to plan out every detail and drive to the perfect place, which I never have time for.
I'm a little ridiculous.

Oh don't you just love those moments finding or being given something that means so much to YOU!!! I had those gumby toys when I was a little tacker, just LOVED those and was devastated when my brother left them at a shop one day (taking them without asking too....little brothers can be such a pain):?

Love those magazines too, how special and beautiful and "put in a glass display cabinet to gaze at lovingly every day" kind of thing, very very spesh!

I totally totally totally understand being besotted with a certain toy. I always wanted a Cabbage Patch doll. I have two boys though so I don't think I'll be able to get one and pass it off as theirs. At 28 I absolutely agree that we are all children deep down, and so we should be.

Ah! I also would have given anything for an American Girl doll. I used to fantasize about some long-lost wealthy relative surprising me with the complete Felicity or Samantha (I cdn't make up my mind) collection.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I found out later that my dad hated when we got the catalogs in the mail because they could never afford to buy me one. Now that I'm a parent, that makes me really sad. I never actually expected to get one--I just liked to imagine it!
How great to get a Molly doll! I had a Samantha, but by the time I got her I was "too old" to play with her. (I was 10. Ha.) Does Paige read the American Girl doll books yet? I LOVED those.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for paper dolls, I have several books that I kept uncut, but I had one I did cut all out that was a Victorian Cat Family. http://www.amazon.com/Victorian-Family-Paper-Dolls-Color/dp/0486247023 It was basically the best thing ever--I played with those for hours, and still have them all somewhere. So I'd say if Paige is really really into one of them, and it seems worth it to cut out every little piece, definitely cut one apart.
Oh, good golly, Miss Molly! I always wanted an American Girl doll, too - oh, I'm hoping one day I get married & have a baby girl for all those girly toys I wanted, but never got! Hmmm... do you think she'd be spoiled?

ReplyDeleteWhat a great haul from a sweet lady - so cool that you have been helping her out. My favorite things are the goofy buttons that say 'du.' What the? They couldn't afford two more letters? I say 'du' a lot, so I suppose that's why I like them.
ReplyDeleteI photocopy paper dolls on cardstock (in color!) and then cut them out! The originals stay perfect, and my kids can mistreat the copies without making me sad!
ReplyDeleteso fun! You should colour copy those dolls - then cut and laminate the copies to play with! that way you get the best of both worlds :)
ReplyDeleteah! i had those marilyn monroe paper dolls! and kept them long enough to pass down to my girls! but eventually i got sick of picking up all the tiny little pieces and snuck them into the trash.

I'm so glad I was sitting down when you revealed Molly! I always wanted an American Girl Doll too, and Molly was THE ONE. I'm sure I'll get one soon because my oldest daughter's name is Molly. I got her a Bitty Baby last Christmas and I like it way more than she does. Lucky you (Paige)!

ReplyDeleteI was not ready for Molly! I almost cried just seeing her! My mom and I used to window shop through the American Girl magazine and pretend we were going to spend $1000 and I always wanted to bring Molly home, mostly because we both wore glasses. And dislike turnips.

Amazing goodies! ESPECIALLY the Molly doll! I used to dream of having an American Girl doll when I was a kid. I'd stare at the catalogs and all the accessories/outfits you could get. I didn't get my Molly doll until I was 21! You're never too old for your first American Girl doll! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I just gave my daughter my old Molly doll (from when I was about 9 - I just turned 30)and she has been taking such good care of her. I've been making them matching clothes - I love having a girly girl! She plays with Molly way more then I ever did... I'm amazed at how nice these dolls are that they can last so long. Enjoy her :)

The company has gotten really lame over the years though, they got rid of some of the best dolls, and they brought in new ones that arent that great. Sadly they also support some things that arent good at all.:( but thats so awesome that you could get molly. :)
ReplyDeleteOH MY WORD. I about died when I saw that you had a Molly doll! Samantha was always my favorite, too, and I wanted one so much as a little girl. Now that I'm an adult and can actually afford one, they stopped making the Samantha doll, which absolutely left me heartbroken. But I'm glad you have the Molly doll (or Paige does) :).

ReplyDeleteOMG, I just got my American Girls dolls from my grandmother's house...I had Samantha too! I always wanted all those cute little accessories, but I only ever had her bed and some clothes, but I did have Addy and a My American Girl doll that looked like me. I used to LOVE going through the catalog and drooling over all the fun things. What a great find!! American Girl sure has changed since then, haven't they? I haven't gone into a store, but just listening to the commercials on the radio, it seems like they are changing their philosophy a bit...anyhoo, they sure are fun!!
ReplyDeleteJackpot! What amazing gifts! I still have my Felicity doll and my paper dolls like the ones shown above. Some I cut out (hey, I was a kid!) but some that I got later are intact. Loved them. OK, still love them. I hardly let my own little girls touch my Felicity or my paper dolls. My oldest two love their American Girl dolls too. Makes me happy to think of enjoying the same toys.

I was absolutely obsessed with American Girl dolls for many years! I still love them. Samantha was my favourite too :) But Molly is pretty amazing! I am so happy for you :)

So awesome, my grandmother bought an original Samantha at a yard sale with 3 outfits for $30! So my daughter has her and just loves her. I was excited about the pins and the parrot till I saw Molly! ReplyDeleteI believe those paper dolls are from Dover Books. Check them out, they have an insane amount of things -- books, stickers, paper dolls, coloring books, reference books. We used them a lot when we homeschooled because they were so detailed. It's such a cool company.

Our girls had Molly and her desk that I had bought at a yard sale years ago... They loved reading all the American Girl book series...and I would get the catalogues with the intent to buy them each an American Girl doll...but for some reason, it never happened. Now, we have our first grandbaby girl and it will be fun when she is old enough to play with dolls. (I had also bought our girls a doll house to put together when they were young, but it still is in its original box! I definitely want to get that "built" and have a room just for our grandbabies for when they come to "Lolli & Papa's" :o)

When I was little, I had a lilly pulitzer dress and my mom went on ebay and bought some lilly fabric that matched the dress and we made one for my look alike doll! so fun!

ReplyDeleteDisney, that is so cool! I love that you got some stuff you love out of helping someone out. (Other than the sweet feeling of being a blessing to someone else, you know.) Your post was so funny, I was in LOVE with my Molly doll as a kid, I had glasses and brown hair and everyone always told me that she looked just like me. (Samantha was the prettier no-glasses version who actually matched my eye color, but I always identified more with Molly. Did you need that American Girl psychology? No? Okay, nevermind, then!)
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, I still have my Molly doll (without the extra accessories, just her school outfit and glasses, and with hair in nowhere near as nice of shape as the one pictured) but I have no idea what to do with her! I haven't checked any blogs in forever, and it's been ages since I've made my way over to you. So I'm scrolling back and I just wanted to let you know that when I saw Molly, I got chills all over! She was my favorite and I too would have given anything to have an American Doll. Love everything you do, your style and the inspiration you give me.
