Weekend in the Woods

I had the best time up in the woods last weekend at our church's impromptu ladies' retreat! Only ten of us ended up going so it was super cozy and we all got to know each other really well. There was crying, there was laughing, there was more eating than is healthy for anyone. It was perfect.
Our theme was "Choosing Joy", which made me think of Ashley. :o) I fumbled through leading a study on "Joy in relationships" which ended up being twice as long as it was supposed to be. (I always do that!!)

I was all about the walks and went out 5 times to enjoy nature and completely fill my memory card with  lovely memories. Pam, who owned the adorably vintage cabin warned that there are bears up there, so I like to think that I bravely took my life in my hands to bring you these shots. You're welcome. :o) hehe

One thing I didn't get a shot of? The AMAZING stars!! I stepped out onto the deck one night after everyone else was asleep and I almost fell to my knees at what I saw. Absolutely stunning. I was telling God what a great job I thought he'd done and how much I love him and just as I finished the thought, I saw a shooting star. It kind of felt like he was saying: "ditto". :o) A few moments later I saw what I guess was the most freakishly large/terrifying shooting star I've ever seen. I kind of thought I was going to die. But it was so beautiful!

Don't you love the woods so much?? Aside from the (NW) beach, it is my favorite type of scenery. I spent a lot of time in the woods when I was a little girl, so it felt a little nostalgic to frolic through them again.

Have a fantastic Wednesday, you! And I hope you choose joy today. :O)

Love,
Disney

    1. Haha there is a Reese's hiding in there, never fear. But actually I prefer my smores sans chocolate, usually. I'm not a big chocolate girl!

  2. Beautiful! I love the PNW! My family spends time every year at Priest Lake, ID and the time out there is a soul-filling reminder of how beautifully creative God is!

  3. Oh what a lovely time you all seemed to have had. It's amazing when you get together with other Christian Women. The time sharing always seems to mean so much to everyone.

  4. Hey! I like that theme! :-) I love the PNW -- that's where we live right now, but it's "for a limited time only" as we are a military family. I feel like it's a glimpse of heaven here.

  6. Beautiful, Disney. I had a moment like that last week. My grandfather passed away from Leukemia, and I was sitting out on my back balcony and just feeling this overwhelming presence of something powerful...sadness, relief that he was at peace, and like he was looking down on me as well. There was a sunset, and the sound of crickets and frogs, and just quiet. Those moments are always a little jarring, but totally moving.

  9. Beautiful photos!! What you saw was the Persiud Meteor Shower! It happens every year and it peaks on August 11th, which this year was a saturday night. My son had a friend sleeping over and we all sat outside till 2am watching the shooting stars. It's so much fun!

  12. Beautiful pictures! Its always a bliss and very energizing to spend time in real nature. Oh you lucky one, you spotted the gravel sworm tresspassing the earth this weekend. We were also in the forest in our cottage but the weather was too cloudy that night to see anything of it.

What a wonderful idea...joining a group of women to share God's words and this beautiful world he created for us...perhaps a Bible study group would be a great place to start?
    The fruit salad looks delicious.:)

In one another's peace delight and so fulfill the Word."

  21. The comment about nearly falling to your knees at the sight of the stars made tears spring to my eyes. How wonderful is it that God reveals himself to us through his amazing creation?!? So thankful for those sweet moments when God is right there, not that he isn't always, but you know what I mean, just "right there". Sure love your sweet blog.

  24. ahh! We had those same songbooks growing up! what memories they bring back...
And how can you dislike the NW beach?! ...perhaps I love it because, aside from long beach in LA (which is utterly filthy and disgusting), it's all I've ever known for beaches.

  25. Oh.. nvm on my last comment about the beach. I read too quickly and misunderstood what you wrote.
