Me.

In honor of my birthday, I thought I would take a little break so we can all set down our projects and get to know each other better. :o)

Over the last (almost) year, you've all gotten to know me a little through my blog, but I wanted to get a little more personal and introduce you to a little of the "real" Disney.....Whatever that means. :o)

So, here we go; some random facts of interest (hopefully!) about me!

  • I'm a chameleon.  Which basically means that when you're around me, I adapt to you. Sometimes this is a wonderful gift (for instance, people usually feel very comfortable around me, and I'm able to make friends easily!), but sometimes it's not so good....being a chameleon means that I really have no idea who I am.

  • However, one area in which I am most certainly unmoved, no matter who's company I am in is this: I love the Lord. I love Him, love Him, love Him. He is my "big picture", and nothing else really matters in the end.

  • If you're around me for more than a couple of hours, you will most likely be introduced to my goofy side. (Don't be afraid! I'm ok.) I like to blame it on the fact that I was home schooled. :o) We had lots of fun growing up. (Thanks mom!) One of my favorite past times is laughing until I cry with my mom, sister, and close friends. (And occasionally around people who hardly know me....)

  • I was extremely overweight in my preteen years.  I wish I had a photo to share with you, because I know you would get a huge kick out of it! My older brother loved to torment me about it, and his favorite nickname for me was "Lard Butt". He also never failed to point out that, when I jumped on our back yard trampoline, I "almost made it touch the ground!" Yeah. I'm pretty sure those couple of years ruined my self esteem permanently. However, I got taller, and my brother is now one of my favorite persons on earth. (Love you, Mark!) And p.s. I'm glad I was overweight. It's made me a much more considerate person.

  • I LOVE the water. Especially beaches. Especially Washington beaches. I grew up in western WA, and our family used to go Ocean Shores often. I have to say, I've been to Hawaii-and it's beautiful, but I'd still rather be at home in WA with the brisk wind, seagulls, and sand dollars!

  • I never take pain medication. I'm really weird about that. I can't stand the idea of not knowing how my body's really feeling! I didn't have any when I had Paige (not even the ibuprofen, baby!), and you know what? It wasn't really too bad. Besides, now I have a "pain card" to play on her later in life :o)

  • I have no idea what my style is. Maybe it's that chameleon character in me again, but I just can't decide on one style! Am I J. Crew or Modcloth?? Maybe I'll call it "eclectic" and pretend I know what I'm doing. I can't help it-I just love everything! Putting together an outfit is like decorating a room, or painting a canvas. I get bored with one style and I just want to have fun with it! I do get the occasional stare in the grocery store, but hey, life's too short to worry about that kind of stuff, right??

But one thing's for sure......

  • I try to play it cool most of the time, but in reality, I'm totally insecure about my blog. I wasn't sure if I should really tell all my readers that, but oh well. I'm being candid. :o) I second guess every post, and to tell you the truth, it's just hard to keep my feelings of self worth sometimes, with such great company! But I coined a little phrase to help keep my thoughts cheerful: You should never try to be better than anyone but yourself. Good philosophy, right?

Some other random things?
I was named after the Disney Chanel, not the theme park. In fact I've never even been to Disney Land! Scandalous!
I really don't like seafood. I'd rather eat cat food.
I never cry.
I get really down in the summer time, like some people do in the winter. My fair-skinned genes just don't do well in blazing heat, so I really have to fight the misery to stay positive! :o) On the other hand, when it rains, I feel like I could take on the world!

And last but not least, I really thrive on contact with people, so I wanted to say how much it means to me that you're here, reading. Your comments are such highlights in my day. And even those who don't have the time to comment, it's ok! Just looking at my traffic reports and seeing that you're here makes me so happy. Thanks so much. :o)

So what about you? I'd love it if you shared a comment about yourself while you're here! There's no reason I should hog the show. What do you love about yourself? Why do you craft? Do you have a blog? I'd love it if you shared the link with us! You can even leave your comment anonymously, and brag about yourself. :o)

And since I don't think I could ever learn and remember all your birthdays, let me take this opportunity to say:

Happy Birthday to you, too!!
Whenever it may be :o)

Take care, now!

  1. Thanks for sharing... I just had to say, I get you on the summer thing. I'm fair-skinned too. Love your blog!

  2. Loved reading this and getting to know more about you! And I think everyone feels insecure about their blog- I'm pretty sure, actually.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, sweet friend. So glad that the internet has given me the chance to know you a little...

  3. Love this post!! Thanks so much for sharing. I also identify with the summer thing. Growing up in Hawaii didn't help either. LOL

  4. Oh, and by the way, I LOVE every single thing about summertime. I don't have fair skin, so maybe that's the difference, but I would live in May through August all year long if I could. My sister, Jordan, however, is TOTALLY with you (and shares your love for rainy days!). Funny, right? ;)

  6. You are so adorable!! I think you're wonderful. Wishing you a very happy birthday. And I agree with the previous commenter, I think everyone is insecure about their blog, well I am at least, but I have to tell you that I never scroll past one of your posts in my reader. I always know it will be worth the read!!

  7. Joyeux anniversaire, Disney! Thank you for sharing all this! It is sweet to know a little more about you! And...as you asked... a little bit about me... I craft because I need to keep my mind and hands busy to forget I can't be a mother. I blog because I am addicted to some other blogs- like yours ;-) and I was planning to write the exact same kind of post in a month for my 35th bday. Thank you for being so generous and inventive!

  8. Happy birthday! I totally know what you mean about being insecure about your blog, I am too!

I actually just wrote a post about me for a challenge. Feel free to read it! :) I just love getting to know other bloggers.

  9. Happy birthday!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog! I hope it helps a little with the insecurities... (Who am I kidding, it never helps. I know, I'm right there with you).

I enjoyed learning new things about you. Your blog was the first blog I ever followed and you made ruffles so fun! I never liked them before, but now they make me smile.
I love your pictures, the way you and your daughter pose, the colors, the fun-ness...

I don't have a blog, so I'll tell just a bit about myself. I live in israel and I was born in a very religious jewish family. When I was 18 I decided to stop being religious and live my life the way I wanted. At first it was very bad but now I enjoy my life and am truely happy (most of the time).
However, I still appriciate the difference between people and the varity of beliefs.
I just entered into the craft world a few months ago after years of thinking that I'm untalanted.
Like you, I was overwheight as a child, unfortunately it never went away.

Thank you for being here and coloring my day :)

  10. Happy Birthday Disney! You are definitely young, 25!

Thank you for sharing with us!

I am terrified of ants, even just one ant I'll freak out. I guess is is because when I was little, an ant crawled on my hand and the next thing I knew it went up my sleeve and I never found that critter again. I think I've been scared for life. I know this may sound silly, but it is true!

  11. Happy B-day Disney! I have to remind you, that you have fans aaaalllll the way in Finland. I started my blog so that I could sometimes only write and think about "happy things" Crafts are a great way to escape reality ;) It's also fun to have a whole other blog personality.

  12. First of all, Happy 25th birthday!! I remember that one (2009)...it was very strange feeling realizing how "old" I was. Probably because I feel (and look) 16 still (I am a teacher and have actually been asked by a volunteer librarian "Who is your homeroom teacher" when I was checking out books for my students.)
I love your blog. I love your ideas. I love that you are honest. I love that you are real. Makes me want to read more and more of your blog :)

I started my very first blog in January of this year. (www dot mineforthemaking dot blogspot dot com). I started blogging as a "creative outlet." It's almost therapeutical for me (which I am sure most people can relate too). I would love for you to visit my blog. I am not as crafty as you...wait...I seem to remember a very smart lady reminding me "You should never try to be better than anyone but yourself." :)

Thanks for sharing...but more importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  13. Happy Birthday Disney! This is a great post, lovely to get to know the lady behind the blog! It's my birthday soon and I might just introduce a little more of me!

  14. Happy Birthday! I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets down in the summer. I hate it so much. my mom get depressed in the winter, and just doesn't understand how I get depressed in the summer. I thrive in the rain and cold.
I also love Northwest beaches. There's nothing more perfect.

  15. Happy birthday Disney! This post made me smile (as most of yours do) - a goofy chameleon, who likes ruffles, has a brother who was a bit of a tease (sounds familiar), loves the sea, and looks amazing 9 months pregnant. Thanks for sharing.

That pregnancy shot is fantastic!! I looked like a beached whale when I was 9 months pregnant so am hugely envious of your beautiful neat bump.

Everyone's insecure about their blog, but with over 4,000 followers you can chill a bit and bathe in the glow of adoration!

I started crafting and blogging to help me get over postnatal depression - bizarre but it worked and made me feel like I was achieving something while I felt I was failing at being a mummy. I don't feel that now and my little boy is an absolute delight (even if he did do a poo in the bath last night... ahem)

Is it too cheeky to add my blog address here? I tell my story a bit more there, if you want to feel better about yourself and your blog! I'm still working on mine...

Thanks again for such a candid post - and have a great birthday, L xoxoxox

PS It's a good job you didn't get the Cbeebies channel in America when you were born - somehow the name doesn't have quite the same cuteness factor as 'Disney' ;o)

  20. well, you asked for it...
i am a giant. okay, not really, but i am unusually tall and a little insecure about it. i hate being the tallest person in the room. it's such an awkward feeling.
i love my blogs. is that conceited? i don't care if it is. i love them.
i craft because i need to. i am an artist (the drawing painting, sculpting kind) but that can sometimes be a little demanding and crafting allows me the creative outlet without all the pressure. also, there's something kind of lovely about anything handmade. it's just so personal.
so that's me, sort of. thank you for sharing yourself and your work here for all of us to see. oh, and, happy birthday!

  21. Happy Birthday lovely lady! And you've just made my day..I'm 31 now and have always thought I was going through a music/fashion/life identity crisis....but I've just realised that I'm a chameleon too!! Hope you have an awesome day!

  24. I'd rather eat cat food too than eat sea food. I pretend I'm allergic to it so I don't have to explain my repulsion. But I abhor tomatoes even more.

I love checking your blog, which is weird and I don't have a specific answer as to why I do so. We don't have much in common, but I like your enthusiasm, pictures and novel ideas. You've got a different perspective I guess.

I love crafting purely because I'm good at it and I get satisfaction from having custom clothes and objects.

By the way, Happy Birthday, wish you all the best for the year.

  25. Something about me - I'm in love with you and somewhat jealous of your talent!!!! I can't believe you are self-conscious about your blog! You are the craft/sewing blog queen! 26. Hey, Disney!
    Happy Birthday!
I really really love your blog! I love evreything- your crafts, pictures, Paige, writing... I really like to read each new post...
I had birthday on sunday and I turned 23 :D hurray for me :) and you of course ;)

I am studying pharmacy and I have so little time to craft- and I really love crafting. When I study, I am thinking about my next project, which material will I use... It is really frustrating, because I know, that I must study, but on the other hand I really want to craft! On wednesday I will have my "last" exam and than one month I will have time to express myself...
    I also have blog... http://ana-na-s.blogspot.com/

As you may notice, I am not from USA, english is not my first language, so I hope I did not make a lot of mistakes and that you know what I was trying to say :D

    Keep writing and crafting ;)

Oh, and I wish you all the best ;)

  27. Happy Birthday Disney. Loved this post of yours. I love all your posts.
I was also overweight when I was young - hang on! I still am....
At least you blossomed into something akin to a supermodel. Don't deny it, the camera loves you!
I'm just recovering from a big abdominal surgery and I can see the weight dropping off me. My surgeon said 'when you get over this you'll be able to see your knees, never mind your feet' LOL.
I craft because I a) love it. b) its the only way I can make a living here in Turkey where I live and c) I guess I'm quite good at it. I just got a new dining room table which will be perfect for a little sewing maching action. Normally in my shop I just make jewellery and greetings cards, so getting time to fiddle with my Singer (sadly not called Pearl, how I wish I'd thought of that, you clever old thing.
Your blog is in my tool bar and I click on it everyday before I even read my emails, so don't be shy about it.
Love you, your blog, your home, your stuff...

  28. Happy Birthday!!! I love your blog. You actually help me look at the world and myself in a different way so I thank you for that.

I've been crafting since I was a child but didn't branch out to new things until I got rheumatoid arthritis a few years ago. I got bitten by the sewing bug after my daughter arrived a couple of years ago and have never looked back. It makes me sew (sorry I couldn't resist) happy!

My tiny little blog is just a diary of what I've been sewing.

  31. Disney: You are beautiful and an inspiration to all of us. I feel that I am never good enough, have done enough or am good enough for anything or anybody. I don't take criticism well and get hurt all the time by peoples comments. I seem to be the one that is always picked on. (I am twice your age and it still continues) I always tell people that I want to treat them the way I would like to be treated. I recently lost weight because I was miserable feeling like I did. Now I am criticized for that. I have finally had to tell people it is none of there business and I am healthy. So not like me because I am very polite, courteous and friendly to everyone. Not perfect but who is. I was raised in a Christian home and taught always to respect everyone. Keep smiling!!!

  37. Happy Birthday! I craft because, as much as I love my children, I go completely nutso when I am home with them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! And I blog to pretend I'm actually getting the adult interaction I crave. That makes me sound a little pathetic, but crafting is the outlet that lets me feel happy and actually enjoy my life...so I guess that part isn't pathetic.

  40. Hi,

    Happy Birthday!

I've only recently found your blog and I have to say, it is my favourite blog already! I am also guilty of feeling envious of people. We're the same age and when I see your blog and how talented and lovely you are, I get a bit of the green-eyed monster but you're right, there is no point in trying to be "better" than other people.

In terms of what I love about myself, hmm not sure, I think I am a good friend who would drop everything if one of my close friends needed me. I'm also proud of my cooking and sewing skills, even though I'm no expert at either!

I craft because I feel like I just have to - I've well and truly caught the crafting bug. I find some crafts relaxing (crochet) and some infuriating (most sewing projects, especially zips) but I couldn't be without it.

Thanks for your amazing blog, you have given me so many ideas! And sorry about the essay!

A little about me: I'm a mom, and wife, and I work in Hospice. Its an emotionally tough job, but you do get used to it.
I have always been "crafty" but I didn't learn to sew until a few years ago. I started a blog about 5 months ago, and it has been so much fun. But I to, worry and second guess everything I put up there.

  45. Disney, I really enjoy your blog--you have a good imagination and use it to create beautiful works of art!! Thank you for sharing through your blog.

I do not have a blog--not too sure of myself on that subject. I do love to sew and other small crafty type of stuff. When I was little, I begged my Mom to teach me how to sew. She passed away alomost 3 years ago; however she has given me this love and knowledge for sewing. I am thankful for this legacy she has given me. I have two girls, my oldest who is 7 now begs me to teach her how to sew. She loves art and doing crafty stuff as well. My other girlie who is almost 6 loves to cook. What better thing to do than to teach our children the love of using our hands and making our home fun!

I also Love the Lord with my whole being. So glad that you have Christ in your heart!

  47. Happy birthday Disney! Thank you for allowing us into your world, insecurities and all (although they are unfounded!).

I also love the Lord and love to craft. I make paper crafts, sew and create jewelry (jewelry is my business). I have a blog at http://amycornwell.blogspot.com which is a mix of just about everything I enjoy: family, crafting, jewelry, God, saving money, etc. Friendships are very important to me, but true friendships are hard to come by for me. I feel like I'm also a chameleon in terms of my personal style...sometimes it's a tshirt & jeans, sometimes a dress, sometimes a jean skirt with frilly top. I love variety.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing with us. I love your blog and look forward to your posts (and when you don't post, I notice and am sad!!). No pressure. :)

  61. Happy Birthday! You're so young! *That* makes *me* feel insecure, when I see all these people younger than me leading these fabulous lives that I wish I was leading. But you're right, I shouldn't EVER try to be better than anyone but myself. I think I need that tattooed on my forehead. :) Besides, I'm turning 27 this month, so it's not like I'm so late getting my act together.

I blog (at www.thestepfordwife.blogspot.com). Not a lot. I wish I had more interesting stuff going on to blog about. Sometimes I'll intend to blog about something, but then I get totally lazy and don't take any pictures of the process or whatever, so I don't even bother writing the post.

So that's me, partially. I loved reading your post about you!

  63. Thanks for sharing Disney! You seem like such a super-mom, wife and crafter! Thanks for opening up!

I'm a wife, my husband is in seminary, and we are adopting from Ethiopia!

I just got my sewing machine last Christmas because I always wanted to sew... your website has REALLY helped me start trying new things and has been a great crafting inspiration!

  64. Happy Birthday!

I think that you should consider advertizing on your blog - maybe use it to fund some sort of charity work or new projects that you can share with all of us.

  65. Happy Birthday! I love your blog although I'm awful and don't comment. I've got to get better at that! Thank you for sharing.

My name is Bonnie, and I was home schooled too! My husband and I just found out that we are pregnant! I craft in order to maintain my sanity! It's also my creative outlet as I work in a very uncreative job. I mostly do paper crafting such as invitations, wedding programs, etc. I'm always experimenting with tablescapes and center piece ideas on my kitchen table. I crochet because it is the most Zen experience I've ever found!

I have the best husband in the world and the cutest shitzu ever and the best way to sum me up is that I'm a "skills collector" who wouldn't trade the world for my husband, my puppy... or my paper cutter!

    Have a wonderful birthday!

  67. Happy birthday!

Those stares in the grocery store...they're just making mental note of how you've put yourself together so they can duplicate it (I catch myself staring at other people's kid's clothes and think I must look creepy...good thing I'm obviously another mom!)

The sun! It's no so bad here in the Midwest, but when I lived in So Cal, the sun HURT my skin just being outside. Still, I don't want it to rain ALL the time. A nice mix of weather (and four seasons!) is my cup of tea.

You don't need to be insecure about your blog (though, it's totally natural to be!) EVERY post is a delight...upbeat, clever, cute!

Come visit my blog someday...just for kicks. :-)

  69. Just wanted to say Happy Birthday! Thank you for inspiring me! I just recently referred to your blog as "my favorite sewing blog", well only one really! I have four little girls and until you I would just toss clothes with stains and such! I feel like I am a better steward of their clothes now. You have also given me this new love for sewing...crazy! I just wish you had a tutorial on swimsuits :(. That's what I am trying to make right now. By far the most difficult thing I have ever sewn and I'm sure Lycra is from The Devil!! Anyway I'm over at www.abokroskindoflife.com

Something about me. I love to travel I will go any where no matter how small or large. I just love to see how others live. The bad thing is I do not get to travel very much and I can get the travel bug so bad that I cannot enjoy my regular life. I am working on just enjoying the small things in life instead of wishing for what I don't have.

    Keep up the good work!

I'm not much of a commenter, just a lurker, but I want you to know that your blog is in my top three (in good company with Dana!) and it is because your personality shows so much in it, and it is easy to see the sweet and funky person that loves making things. And from someone who is picking out girl names right this very second, let me just say that I think Disney is a totally rad name. You wear it well. Enjoy your day to the max!

  74. Hi Disney! Happy Birthday! You are just too cool. I am sure that we would be the best of friends...seems that we may even be long lost sisters, or somethin'. ;o) I am the very blessed mom of 7 of the world's most beautiful masterpieces. My very best work, actually! We homeschool. I am very creative...I get to the point that I will just about have a coronary if I don't get to sew, or create something (usually a big mess with 5 little girls helping). I make their clothes...most of them, anyway. I never had a sister, so I am TOTALLY enjoying this gift from the Lord. I was quite lonely growing up...had 4 VERY hateful brothers who told me I was found in the woods in a stump hole (that I used to search for when out exploring the woods) all the time, and I was naive enough to believe them (for most of my home life). Anyway, You sound a lot like me....
I love the Lord! He daily loads me down with benefits, therefore I have no room for complaint. I enjoy your blog so much. It is so cute...feminine...girly...LOVE IT!!! Looks like a ton of people agree :o)Blessings to you!

I love reading your blog, it's one that I look forward to reading every day! I love seeing your pictures and your sweet Paige :) I don't know what you would call your 'style', but I definitely think you have one of your own. I've seen things in stores and thought 'I bet Disney would like that' ;) I also feel totally insecure about my blog. I feel like no one's reading it ,but I keep posting because I like it. Oh well :)

Anyway, love the post today, loved seeing all the pictures. I love the internet, it's so cool/strange/interesting to 'meet' all these people that you would never have the chance to encounter in the 'real' world.

  77. Happy birthday, Dis! Your blog has been a true inspirational muse to me. I had been totally unaware of the blog world - especially the crafting blog world till I stumbled upon your blog through a Google search for craft directions for a project! Since reading your blog, I've reconnected with my crafty side...& started my own blog (about a bit of everything geared at teens & young adult girls to encourage them in their walks with the Lord - yes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Heavenly Daddy, too, but not as much as He does me (or you=)). You have been a huge part of my blogging career. I should post a sign saying "Possible Because of Disney." But, hey they might think it's Mickey! Just know I think you are UBER-great! I do the same thing about double & triple thinking my posts, even tweaking them after I've put 'em up for the world to see. Just remember you're are a beautiful daughter of the King & you have a loyal reader in me! Hope your birthday is simply wonderful...full of surprises & secret smiles...giggles & grins!

i'm an amateur crafter. i really wish i could learn dressmaking. i mean like really LEARN, the basics and all. but... there are many limitations and restrictions as to how far one can take one's hobby to... especially because of my cultural background and all that stuff.

i'll be hanging around to check your stuff out! :D

  80. Happy Birthday! :) I love that you describe yourself as a chameleon because I feel I'm the same way. I'll even start to pick up people's accents when I'm speaking to them and have to fight hard not to speak that way(don't want them to think I'm mocking them).

You're blog is beautiful and so are you and your family. I'd love to say you should stop doubting your wonderful self but I know that would be difficult to follow. Instead I'll just say thank you for doing what you do...your blog always brings a smile to my face and I appreciate you putting your awesome thoughts, ideas, projects, and life out there. :)

  81. Hey Disney! Happy 25th! After reading your "ME" post, I have to say we have more in common than I originally thought. I too was homeschooled (K-12 grade) and feel that it has made me into who I am today. I was a bit socially awkward growing up, and was a bit over weight in my middle school days. I too have a very eclectic style (you can see it within my house as well as my wardrobe) Jesus is the reason for everything and I am so blessed to have been raised in a family that loves the Lord. Crazy how one can connect online without even officially meeting in person. When I read your posts first thing in the morning with my coffee and my sweet little one still sleeping, I feel as if I just had a chat with a good friend I have known for years. Just know that it brightens my day! Please keep it up! (Even if at times you feel a bit insecure. I find we are always our worst critic) I am inspired by many things, and count sewing and crafting as therapy. Thank you so much for your tutorials and such!! Although I have a baby boy, it's fun to see all the cute girly things you make. :)

If you get a chance you can look at my blog. I just started it not to long ago and I am still learning the ropes. http://trendymegs.blogspot.com

    A random thing about me?
Because of the Muppet Show and Sesame Street, the word "monster" makes me think of cute, quirky creatures rather than scary ones. And my craft of making plush "monsters" has stemmed from that.

Just a little bit about me. I'm from Peru, living in France. My hubby bought me a sewer machine last January and since then I've been searching blogs for learning how to sew. One day I found yours and since then I take a look here everyday. Now I have 3 blogs one for style *_* , a personal one and of course a craft (sew) blog. I made a t-shirt following one of your tutorials.... oops I said 'a litrtle bit' ... here's the link if youd like to visit me.

Oh I was overweight during my teen years and I had bullies that used to call me "She-Monster" it was pretty horrible, I cry once in a while but mostly when I think of what Jesus did at the cross for us, it just humbles my heart and I love Him so much I can't express it with words. I am very quiet and most people don't appreciate a quiet person, except when they want someone to listen. I love to thrift shop and I love to sew although I'm only a beginner. I like to stick my tongue on terracotta pots, love the feeling hehe. I love your name!

  94. Hi Disney,

I'm not sure if I have ever commented but I have been a reader of your blog for a few months. I love that your creativity is not limited to what you can buy. I can't wait to have a child of my own to craft for! For now, I have my nephews, niece, and one unknown on the way.

I have always been pretty crafty but never dedicated my spare time to it until recently (2008). My first quilt was for my sister Leslie who survived so much in one year, she deserved some lasting comfort. I then moved on to making clothing for my niece (I never seem to find cute little boy clothing patterns so they get appliqued stuff).

I used to have a bunch of other hobbies and interests but now they all revolve around quilting, sewing, and crafting. I do read at night to "reset" because occasionally I have stippled so much that night that my brain is still making wavy lines or something to that effect.

My website on Etsy is LovieAndBoo.Etsy.com and my blog is ThreadedMess.com if you ever want to check me out. I don't have a bunch of readers like you but I am hoping to someday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I love your blog (checking my RSS feed in the morning gives me motivation to get out of bed) and I think it's wonderful that you share all of your creative insights with others. Please know that for every person who comments on your posts, there are probably ten people like me who are admiring your projects but who are too shy to let you know.

    Happy Birthday!

  97. Aww! Thanks for sharing Disney! My birthday is in July too! I will be twenty come July 5th. =)

We have a lot in common, being a chameleon, we both LOVE the Lord, both home schooled, and once you get to know me I have a goofy side too. We love the water! I was born on the west-coast too, just down in Long Beach, CA. I love changing my style and I love both J. Crew and Modcloth!

I also feel the same way about my blog. You should look at my older post. I hardly say anything, just post some pictures with a few words. I always wonder when I'm writing a post, "Should I say this?", or "Do I really want them to know this." I'm always editing my posts down. =P

I don't like seafood either! Nasty stuff.

I never cry too. I drives my sisters crazy when we are watching movies. =)

I have a blog and an etsy shop called, Bramblewood Fashion, though for the etsy shop you add Boutique.

Keep up the wonderful work, Disney!

    In Christ,
    ~Ashley

  98. Disney! What a wonderful post! I thought I was the only one about the medicine thing! I hate taking medicine too! Both my girls were all natural too! No pain meds & with the first daughter they gave me pitocin! (evil evil stuff! lol) I hate takin headache medcine when I know that if I drink more water and shut off the lights I will be ok. I like having control over my body! Maybe thats another reason why I'm not a fan of drinking. Everyone thinks I'm werid in their words "suffer then take medicine" lol but I see it as your brain is so powerful that you can do anything you put your mind too! &family doubted that I would have my girls medicine free but I proved them wrong! It was so worth it in the end because you feel so much better when your child is born and I get like a rush of adreline and energy! its such an amazing feeling! I think if we met would we be awesome friends! but you live in WA right? thats a long ways away from NY! I love ruffles too! your blog is perfect dont think differently! have a good friday! :)

  101. Happy Birthday, from a fair-skinned sister from the desert. (No, it doesn't work well!)

Your questions - I love that I am finally comfortable in my own skin. I am who am I regardless of location or company. I sew because fabric is a beautiful addiction. I blog because it's my virtual space and I can do whatever I want there and others with rare commonalities (conservatives, home educators, adopters, etc) can see they are not alone.

    A lovely day to you!

  102. Happy Birthday, Disney! I have been reading your blog for a couple of months now and I am amazed at how much we have in common! I am also a young minister's wife who was homeschooled, loves Starbucks, has a chameleon personality in both self and style, and tries to make use of every penny in a shoestring budget. I craft because I need an outlet for my creativity or I am afraid it would spring out of me! I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a 3 month old son that I am lucky enough to spend all of my time with. I get inspiration from reading blogs and also from my children. I love all things vintage/J Crew/ Anthropologie/Modcloth!!!!

  103. Happy Birthday Disney!
I agree on so many points! I feel like we could be the best of friends if we could ever meet. I too, change to the people around me, but I dot seem to have the inner strength that you have to always fight for the Lord, our God. I wish I did. It affects my style too, I'm 21 and six months (and three days) married, I really haven't the slightest idea how to be a proper wife, let alone woman. I just know that I love my husband more than any earthly thing, and anything vintage, pastel, pink, or girly makes me happy inside. I'm just not always brave enough to pull it off. It doesn't help that I get taken for sixteen all the time
I'm very fair skinned too, but as long as I can sit in the shade, I love summertime, but then again, I love snow better. I would love to live closer to the beach. It would be the best thing in the world. I've never been to the west coast before though (and only above the Mason-Dixon line once.
Your blog has been such a gift to me. My confidence and happiness levels have soared. However, my sewing machine just broken (tragedy) and I have all these patterns cut out with nowhere to go.
I just want to say thank you, your blog is always a bright spot in my day, and the confidence it gives me to be my silly, girly, self is a blessing from above.
I hope you have a simply wonderful birthday!

  106. Happy, happy birthday!!

I'm so excited that you got all of US a gift for your birthday with such a sweet post!!

I know all these comments are so long, so I'll try to just limit mine to 2 things:

    1) You are completely the reason I started my own blog a few months ago!

    www.subtle-tee.blogspot.com

You're the first blog I ever read and then followed and have totally continued being an inspiration to me ever since!! While I LOVE Dana too, I could easily put the same caption on my head "Why can't my blog be more like Disney's?"! I love it! So thank you for everything you do.

    and

    2) I completely agree about the pain medication thing! I had both of my babies all natural and my husband about goes crossed eye when I just don't take some tylenol when I have a headache, but I agree with you, it's natural for our bodies to go through with the pain sometimes and usually pain meds just trade one symptom for another. It makes mommy-ing tough, because I know my little ones need it for some stuff like teething etc and I usually "forget" (honestly) to think of giving them medication since I don't do it for myself. What do you do with Paige??? Have you had the same trouble?

Ok, I lied. One more question!! You have such an adorable figure, I still have a hard time believing you were over-weight!! But what did you do to lose the weight??

Happy quarter century birthday my dear! You deserve a wonderful day.

    Jessica

The darn things won't stay on:) I love seeing all of the ruffles and projects. I am so glad that I have a little girl to try them on. I am not so glad that my sewing machine is still broken:( I will fix it after we get back from Disneyland in October for my little boy Asher's 3rd birthday. 111. Happy Birthday Disney! Like the others I thoroughly enjoy your blog. Your creativity is inspiring and contagious. I have made a few projects using your projects as inspiration so thank you for sharing. Wow, it is funny to hear you say that you are insecure about your blog when I know many wish they could have a blog as good as yours. About me: I love the Lord and am really trying to instill the love of God into my children. I must create in some way - it's like breathing to me. Creativity is a gift from the Creator and we all must use it. I've always loved making things with my hands even as a child. I blog and maybe one day I'll have a blog as cool as yours (and some others that invoke blog envy). If not, it's okay - I can only be me and must focus on being the best me possible. No one can do it better.

  112. Wow, we have a lot of things in common. I too am a chameleon, always different for each person. I don't have just one style...I have thousands! Which is probably why I have no idea how to decorate my house 'cause I like so many things. But I always dress the different style I want each day.
Yay for natural birth! I did too, and it was such a thrill to really experience all of it, and be able to say I did it.
And I know what you mean about rain! I swear I was born in the wrong place (Utah). I live in AZ now, but I would just LOVE to live in WA where it rains all the time. I LOVE RAIN! I makes me feel confident and mysterious. Haha, sounds weird I know.
Thanks for keeping your blog Disney, it's my favorite one I follow. Try not to feel self-concious, everyone loves you for who you are. And we can tell through your beautiful blog. Thanks again. :D

  114. I don't have a particular style either, depends on my mood. I like your style because it's fun and cute. I love being fun and cute. I'm sure you've noticed that by some of my "What I'm Wearing" posts. I can be a bit silly, although not as silly as you. If only I could be as silly as Disney. Oh well, we can't all be Disney.

As a homeschooling mother, I am so happy to see how you've turned out. You give homeschooling a good name. Your mom did a great job. Do you plan to homeschool Paige?

I am very insecure about my blogs as well; maybe we all are. So I love that quote, "You should never try to be better than anyone but yourself."

One thing you didn't tell us is how you and your husband met. That would be an interesting story.

I think the most important thing about you is your love for The Lord. I have found in my life that that is the only thing that brings me real peace and true and lasting contentment is my relationship with God. Without that, we really have nothing. Our world could come crumbling down at any moment. But with God all things are possible and we can face any adversity that life brings.

Happy birthday, Disney. It was nice getting to know you a little better. Thank you for being transparent. And keep up the good work on your blog. It's better than you realize. No need to worry or compare. You are just sharing the gifts that God has given you; so you can't go wrong.

I just recently did a get-to-know-me post on my sewing blog if you would like to get to know a little more about me.

    http://sewingwithtrudy.blogspot.com/2010/06/do-not-read-this-post-trust-me-you-wont.html

And here is a great post about the amazing father of my children.

  117. Happy birthday! Thank you for sharing such a sweet gift =)

I completely understand about the pain medication. I've had 3 natural births and most everyone I know thinks I'm nuts (or maybe it was the homebirths...)

I'm probably a chameleon as well. I have two blogs because I didn't want to confuse people too much lol! I have one for my awesome craftiness and one for my personal/ family life.

  118. My name is Julie and I have a blog at letsblogaboutyou.com that I write with my friend. We blog about people and ask silly questions. We have a very cheerful little blog.

I've been reading for a long time using Google Reader...so that's why I never comment.

Thank you for teaching me how to make ruffles and skirts. I found your blog when I got my first sewing machine!

  119. Happy Birthday Disney! I totally heart your blog! It's is definitely a favorite! As a photographer I also have to say I LOVE the photography on your blog and ask: How do you have so many amazing pictures of yourself? The ? style collage is incredible! I wish I has pictures of myself like this! So neat. You'll have to share your secret!

As far as a little about me? I have gained so much confidence through blogging. I feel like I can step outside my comfort zone a bit more. Example, I LOVE flapper headbands LOVE THEM! But always felt out of place wearing them or like people were starting etc. Once I started blogging and connecting with more of "my" people I knew I could pull it off and walk a little taller! I make and wear them all the time now and love it. Instead of feeling nervous and intimidated I feel confident and cool!

  120. I really really love your blog. I think it is interesting that you second guess yourself...I am very similar. But you have incredible talent and I think your blog is so funny, fun and happy. Thank you for sharing. I have wanted to craft for years, my mother is crafty by nature and it is a skill I want to develop. I am not naturally skilled in very many things and weakness bothers me, so I enjoy challenging myself to learn new things. That is why I love crafting. I am fairly new to it...I did start a blog for fun, I am not good at it or consistant...but I am hoping that one day I will be. www.raining-gumdrops.blogspot.com

  121. Disney,

I love your name and your blog, I know just what you mean by never feeling good about yourself after being tormented as a child. My self esteem is much better but it will always be with me in the back of my head! I love crafting and go from paper crafting to sewing to cake decorating to something else! I to don't feel like I know what my style is either! I have so much in common with you!

    My blog is www.jedamanda.blogspot.com
Nothing special just my family events and what not!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Happy happy b'day! I get your insecurity and second guessing thing. Miserable sometimes, isn't it? But Disney, you have one of the most amazing blogs in existence and, just maybe, that is BECAUSE you take the time and care to second guess and hone your posts. You always come up with beauty in some form. I wouldn't say you don't know your own style - because "chameleon" is not just a character trait, it IS your style! Embrace that, it is what gives us all kinds of brilliant, diverse ideas from those little chameleon gray cells of yours!

Something about me...just a few months blogging, and I get a kick out of feeling happy every time I post something I love. I grew up in Seattle and I love the rain, too. Why am I in LA? I got a job writing screenplays for...Disney! I thought I'd hate it and flee back home to the Northwest in a year. 17 years later...still here.

Love what you share always, I'm so glad you wrote this today!

  123. Happy Birthday! July is a wonderful month to have a birthday in. My husband, son, brother & sister-in law, along with my own sister all have birthday's in this month.

    You have a fabulous blog.

I too am not a huge fan of the summer because I burn so easily. I have to put sun screen on my left arm so that it doesn't get burnt driving around town. I love the winter, so I suppose it is a good thing I live over in Eastern Washington because we have shorter summers and longer winters...I am a happy girl, most of the time.

I also LOVE the LORD so very much. He has blessed my and the husband with 5 babies (only one girl) and I couldn't be happier.

And yes I do have a blog (passionatedesign.blogspot.com) I just started in January, certainly not as craft oriented as yours but I do display a few finished objects from either my knitting or sewing.

    Have a blessed day!

  124. Hi Disney!

Wonderful reading this post! Especially knowing that you love the Lord too. I'm always so encouraged to see other mothers/bloggers boldly sharing their faith and their talents :)

    Here's my blog: www.efootprints.com

I also have an etsy store. I actually clicked on your blog the first time because I was attracted to "Ruffles and Stuff'... since a lot of the dresses I make have ruffles and stuff :)

  125. Happy 25th. You are officially a quarter of a century old. LOL!

I think your blog is AMAZING! You are one amazingly talented beautiful woman.

I love the lord too. In fact, I am getting baptized as an adult tomorrow. I am so excited. I love the 4th of July, so, this weekend couldn't be better for me.

And, your name is absolutely adorable. I love it.

  126. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DISNEY!!

Your blog is one of the few where I read every post. I think the blogging world can make us insecure because people usually blog about extraordinary things and fail to mention the ordinary things in life!

I, too, am a religious gal. I find meaning in life through Him, I try to live my life for Him, and He brings the ultimate happiness in my life.

Have a fabulous birthday...you deserve it!

  127. Happy Bday! I think you are so talented! I don't have a crafting blog, I am better at copying then coming up with my own ideas!:) I am from Western WA too, but don't live there anymore. I too, was an overweight preteen and I hated it, but I am more sympathetic as well. Keep up all you do, I am just amazed at what you come up with!

    2. Your blog is like a little ray of sunshine. I discovered in this past semester and it has quickly become one of my favorites!
    3. I think we all deal with insecurities, but know that your openness and willingness to be yourself is what we love about your blog! It's rare to find someone so talented who shares their creative ideas and projects with everyone. Thanks!
    4. I was homeschooled (loved it) too! Yay!
    5. Whatever your style is, I think it's awesome! I have marked several of your projects to try out myself this summer! As a student on a budget I have found lots of inspiring ideas from your blog and others to refashion and repurpose what I have.

    Again, Happy Birthday!

  131. Hi Disney, I just wanted to comment and say that I think we are a LOT alike. I too am a chameleon, though i've never been able to put a word to it, so that really helps! i too second guess every blog post, so much so that I've kind of taken a hiatus from blogging because I kind of got tired of hearing myself talk. :) Love your blog, you are so talented. and happy birthday!!

  132. Happy Birthday to you! :) What a beautiful post! It is SO nice to "meet" great people like you!

I'm a july-birthday-girl too! :)I LOVE the Lord! And LOVE seeing awesome ladies (like you!) sharing their faith! :)

I enjoy reading your blog and first checked it because "ruffles and stuff" could be life's motto, ha! :) I love craft blogs and recently decided to step up and start one of my own (4daydreambelivers.blogspot.com) - I totally get that you're insecure about your posts; it is scary but OH SO awesome too! :) Have a GREAT birthday!

  133. Happy Birthday! I went through both of my deliveries completely natural too and wouldn't have had it any other way. The first time (7 lbs 6 oz) wasn't too bad other than the back labor. The second time (9 lbs 3 oz!) was, shall we say, a wee bit more intense :) But yes, so totally worth it!

  134. Happy Birthday! :)

I, too am from Western Washington--Sequim, in fact, and I've also vacationed at Ocean Shores. AND I prefer overcast days myself.

My little family blog is www.weedsseeds.blogspot.com, and you're most welcome to come visit any time. (And yes, my last name really is Weed. :)

What else. Hm, how 'bout this for an amusing story--I ate a slug. Amusing? Maybe that's not the right word for it. Perhaps revolting is better? But I'm sure it'll be unique among your readers. Not many have sampled slug. :)

    Cheers!

    Bethany

PS-I should probably add that I was 1 when I ate the slug, but still. A slug went down my gullet, and slug trail had to be scraped off my teeth.

Ew, are you going to have a terrible birthday now?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Hi Disney! Happy Birthday! My birthday is coming up too, on July 6. I recently started a blog about cooking and crafting (about a month ago) and in honor of my birthday decided to host my first giveaway. I've gotten a little discouraged lately because the only person to enter the giveaway was my mother! yipes. (But you could enter if you want... it ends July 6!)
Talk about blog envy- you have great ideas, great followers and a really cute kid too.
Here's to July birthdays and enjoying blogging even when no body comments :)

  136. Hey, I just thought of one more not slug related thing I wanted to share. I think we all struggle with our insecure, inadequate, doubting feelings. Whether we admit it as openly as you have or not, we do. And one day when I was thinking about that, the thought came to me: When we think less of ourselves or when we compare ourselves negatively to others or anything along those lines, what we're really doing is telling the Lord that He made a mistake. Right? Because He created us, and for any of us to doubt His creation is to tell Him that he did a bad job. Yikes! :) Anyway, that's just a little thought that helps to get me through sometimes.

    Happy birthday again!

  137. Happy Birthday Disney! I hope it's a wonderful day for you! :o)

Your blog is the first blog I ever followed. I enjoy reading your posts and think your ideas are great!

My siblings and I were home schooled and my Dad was a minister. My husband is also Asian and we have 4 boys. No girls...yet. ;)

God is at the center of my life and I try to please Him with every aspect of my life! This is the single most important thing to me!

I think your blog is great! But I understand...I too, am insecure about my blog. Anyway, here it is:

I admire women who gave birth with no meds. I am due in December with my 1st and I would love to give birth med free. We shall see how long I make it! My husband says I won't even make it into the hospital door and I will be wanting the epidural!
Have a wonderful 4th of July and I also invite you to check out my blog.

  143. Happy birthday! I love how you described yourself as a chameleon. I feel the same way, although I can't say that I always make people feel comfortable... I'm still a bit too socially awkward myself. :) But in a group, I fill whatever role is needed: a leader, a follower, the optimist, the pessimist... Sometimes it works out better than others ;)

  145. Hi Disney! Happy Birthday! Just want to say that if we lived by each other, we'd be buddies for sure! Really! :) I'd invite you to my backyard berry patch and we'd hold down lawn chairs with an iced tea (in the cool shade for you), while watching our kids romp and play and dreaming up our next projects! :)
I love reading all your creative ideas. I haven't jumped onto the blog wagon myself. I'm way too scared that it will suck all my time and energy . . . I KNOW I could get way too involved in it! Maybe someday. In the meantime, thanks for the morning cheer while I have my coffee and wake up each day! (Some of my other morning favorites include Courtney at womanlivingwell and reviveourhearts.com). I am glad that you're a chameleon, too! I have realized that about myself and I've never met anyone else to "own up to that". It cracks me up that I even start to TALK like people I hang out with! There's this lady from church from the south and I always embarrass myself around her because I never fail to slip right into a deep southern drawl whenever I'm around her (and no, I'm not from the south either!). Funny! You're right, though. The good flip side is that we seek to put people at ease and make them feel loved and comfortable.
I'm, er, NOT 25 (ahem). But, 25 was a great year I remember (that was the year our first daughter was born --- oh the memories) and I am wishing you a wonderful 25th year full of happiness, too!

  146. We wouldn't be here if we didn't like your blog, and you because of it. Wouldn't it be fun for all these ladies to get together in a ruffly themed lunch. Happy Birthday! Kudos on the no drugs thing. They asked me if I wanted natural and I said "Give me everything you've got!" When they couldn't get it fast enough, I nearly had a panic attack. Natural, was an accident with my third, though I would do it again if I were having more.

I'm afraid of silverfish bugs, to the point of crying, and I love the smell of fresh cut grass. Summer is too hot, and winter too dreary, I'm a spring/fall kinda girl. I also adore freckles and love that my two girls are getting them across their noses already!

  147. Happy birthday Disney! I live in Western Washington too and think it's the best area of the nation to live in. Your blog is great. You make everything so easy. I got the sewing machine out and started going. Now, I re-make lots of clothes from the second hand store for myself and my children. It's been great and my husband is in total shock. I wasn't homeschooled but I do homeschool. I love my kids like crazy and selfishly want them around me all the time! I have six children which keeps me pretty busy but in my spare time I like to read cozy mysteries, make decadent rich desserts, and exercise. I have a blog but it's not crafty like yours, just the day to day adventures of our family. dorreldicksonfamily@blogspot.com

  153. Happy Birthday! I just started reading your blog recently. I'm just starting to get into ruffles and they're so easy to add to everything. Now that I have a baby it makes so much sense to spruce up the clothes I already have rather than buying more.

"You should never try to be better than anyone but yourself." This is exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you. Now that I am a stay-at-home mom I'm having a hard time not comparing myself to my seemingly perfect stay-at-home friends whose houses are immaculately clean *all* the time. My mom used to compare me to my brother (who is 4 years younger) so it's kind of ingrained in me.

I have always crafted but now it really keeps me sane when not working and my 8-month-old son is having a hard day. I just started my blog recently but feel free to take a look at what I have up so far. I'm really enjoying putting myself out there.

  154. Happy Birthday :) That's bizarre that you're only 25. You don't look older or anything - it's just that I'm 27 and it's always a wake up call when it seems like people younger than me do things all the time that I can't seem to figure out, i.e., sew a lot when you're a mom. I love to sew but since I had my first baby in December, I can't figure out how to allocate my time to make very much.

Also, I like when people are unabashed about their religions and beliefs :) Humble testimonies are nice.

  156. Loved this post...and before I read it this morning I had written ten facts I wanted my students to know about me this year before school starts... here is a bit about me.10 fun facts about your teacher
1-I love Elvis! I love his music and his movies. I have been to Graceland three times in the last four years.
2-I am a morning person; I wake up each morning between 4:30 and 5:00 ready to sew, paint, or read.
3-I don’t like to sweat, in the summer I am happiest indoors or by a pool.
4-I think that every person is an artist you just have to find your medium.
5-I love collections. My first collection started at age six collecting stickers and as I grew older it changed from stickers to shoes, from shoes to pottery, and most recently from pottery to art for my home.
6- I love to travel and hope to visit all 50 states before I turn 50.
7- I love school, teaching school, going to school, and learning new things.
8- My husband and I love Ole Miss. We spend many of our weekends cheering on our Rebels.
9-I love getting and sending mail. Each day when I get home I enjoy checking the mailbox to see if we have gotten any packages or cards.
10- I pray every day that I will have a servant’s heart so that I can grow by helping others.

  159. Happy Birthday Disney.

I think a lot of us feel similar feelings about some of that. What is our style? Why do we blog?

A couple weeks ago, I realized that I was blogging for the wrong reasons, which is why I loved your coined phrase. I hated that I felt like it was all a competition for who was the best. And then I realized that takes all the fun out of it! So, I can be the best I can be, but to compare I will either come up short or better and both of those might make me prideful:).

    Thanks for all your thoughts!

  160. Hi Disney! Thanks for the personal post...it was great to 'get to know' a bit about you:) I think, that if we lived in the same city, we would meet each other and be the best of friends:) I too am of the chameleon nature, and have struggled with the 'who am I really' thing. But, making friends easily is a blessing! I don't take pain meds either, and had my last two children at home...it was AWESOME!!!!! I was homeschooled from 5th through 8th grade and then went to public high school. We are currently homeschooling our oldest daughter and loving it! I also love Our Lord and am so glad that HE is in control of our lives!! I have a blog, but it's not really a craft blog, although I'd love to add that in too. I'm kind of a metiocre (how do you spell that??) crafter...I like to get my hands in to lots of different areas, but I've not mastered any. But I'm learning:) You've certainly inspired me so much...I can make ruffles now!!! I've been ruffling everything in the house, my girls love it:)

Thank you so much for blogging and sharing your ideas and creativeness! I love coming here and seeing what you've been up to!!

God bless you, and happy 25th birthday!!!!!!

  161. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I loved reading this post and seeing all of the pictures of YOU! It was so fun and I feel like I know a little bit more about you now, was shocked at almost all of them, but thought it was cool how honest you were!

I have a blog that I started in '08, right after I had my second baby, Lola. I wish that I started it when Kyan was born, as this is the way that I keep their memories, so if blogger ever crashes, I think my world would too! (I want to make one of those blurb books of my blog, but every time I try, I can't figure it out). It is such an amazing way for family and friends to grow with us when they aren't with us every day! I am constantly taking pictures, so they feel like they are right there with us! I have started to find my inner craftiness once again, and posting those too, with an occasional recipe here and there! I love my blog and have met so many wonderful woman via this bloggy blog world! I love it!

This is so totally me! My mom loves the heat (she commented how nice it was that it was starting to get warm...the first day it hit 100F!).

I guess if you'd like to get to know me, you can always visit my blog...but in short:

...have been homeschooled all my life (technically graduated this year, but why should I use that as an excuse to stop learning?)
...am 18 years old (thanks for the birthday wish--it's only a month late ;)
...must get back to work now :)

  168. Happy Birthday Disney! I will never forget talking with a fellow homeschool mom while my husband was in seminary and she said, "To compare is to despair." She is right. God has made you a sweet, smart, unique and very talented wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. My advice is don't second guess God's wonderful handiwork. You my dear are fearfully and wonderfully made!

  169. Oh my goodness, Disney, I knew you were young, but heavens, I'm old enough to be your mother!! (does she have a blog too? it would be fun to see what kind of mama inspired all this ruffled goodness!)

Your blog is a lot of fun to read and your projects are inspiring :) Thanks for sharing with us!

  170. Happy Birthday! BTW, you were one adorable pregnant lady :-) I'm totally jealous of your natural birth. While I'm totally one to numb the pain in normal life, I wanted to experience birth. Not really sure why I switched my flip when I was pregnant :-)

Let's see, something about me. I too am a chameleon, but not with my personality really. More with my look. I have went through so many styles, hair cuts, colors, makeup regimes...I have no idea what I really look like. While these days I'm super casual (AKA lazy with a 1 year old) I wouldn't call this my style. It's just me surviving the day ;D

  171. Happy birthday! I love your blog, your tutorials, and your ruffles. Since you were homeschooled, do you homeschool your daughter, too? We would like to homeschool ours someday. Right now we're working on her first birthday party.

  172. awwww...happy birthday and thanks for sharing! Your blog is fan-tab-u-lous and makes me wish I owned a sewing machine!! I am a crafter by heart, I work on altered art journals, ATC's, greeting cards, and I may try my hand at Zine's. I have a blog which I shamelessly plugged here

    My Blog

and here is something most people don't know about me...my middle name is BABY O_o

  173. Happy Birthday Disney. Only a young 25? Wow, seems like you've achieved so much. I hope you had a great birthday. Not sure how I stumbled upon your blog but love your style, your photos and your tutorials. Your little daughter Paige is so cute too.

I too am too adaptable which often means I'm easy going but I don't have a strong like or dislike for anything. I guess I'm not the only one who is a chameleon.

I've just started a craft blog, so come by and visit me at

  174. Happy Birthday, sweet Disney!
I've been stalking your blog for some time now...absolutely love your style and sense of upcycling.
I totally get the chameleon thing... it's how I've made a lot of my very best friends and it keeps people comfortable with me... that and my seriously quirky (and sometimes inappropriate, just being honest!) sense of humour.
It's also how I was able to manage being a "nerd" and a "cool" kid simultaneously in high school! :)
Enjoy your birthday. You've earned it!

  175. Happy Birthday!!! Ive been following your blog for a while now and think your wonderful! btw Im 25 too and my style is versatile as well but I have noticed that no matter the style or look I gravitate towards the ultra feminine whether its vintage feminine, indie feminine, or classic jcrew feminine :)

  177. What a great idea for a birthday post - and Happy Birthday! I loved the post and enjoyed learning more about you.

I'm soon-to-be 28, so not much older than you, but mother of 2 children (also birthed au natural). We are Waldorf-inspired homeschoolers.

I blog for my business (www.EuphoriaBaby.com/blog) and for my stitching (www.StitchedInColor.wordpress.com). I sew decor items and quilts (some for charity). I've had issues with clothes and have decided that if/when I try again, they're going to be for ME this time. That's why I subscribed to your blog. Love your style (I'm eclectic too) and Love ruffles!

  178. P.S. I am a Christian too and have been trying to understand how to share my faith on my blog without being preachy. I love how you incorporated into this "me" post. Hope you don't mind if I snitch that idea!

  179. Wow, what a great blog! Ok, a few things we have in common. My third baby girl is named Paige. I didn't take any pain meds while birthing. I am fair skinned and am scared of the summer. My grandmother lives in Salem and I love that children's museum! I have many pics in that big chair! I love diet coke, but have not yet given it up. :D

You're fab, and I love visiting your blog regularly!

  182. Thanks for the post! I love the rain too, but I do not want your blog to be more like anyone else's. Don't get me wrong other people have great blogs, but yours is still my favorite! And yes I do hold your blog responsible for my current craft blog addiction.

  188. Hi Disney,

Nice to "meet" you. You seem very normal. :) Thanks for sharing. I've learned a lot from your blog, and of course, seeing Paige's sunny face is always a treat. I blog at bromeliadliving.blogspot.com where I try to ruffle things up now and then.

  190. Happy birthday, Disney! I first fell in love with your blog when I somehow came across the adorable fleece cape tutorial you posted. I couldn't believe how CUTE and EASY it was, and I felt so incredibly grateful to you for sharing that technique with all of us. I have loved your tutorials and thoughts ever since, and I really thank you for the work you do.

  191. Thanks for sharing! I just found your blog and it has become one of my favorite websites!

I totally agree with you on the Summer thing. As a very pale lady that lives in the south (Georgia!) where summer is about 6 months instead of 3 I am addicted to SPF 60+. And your homeschooled = goofy theory is spot on!

So Happy Birthday and thankyou for being such a great witness for Christ in such a cool way! Proverbs 3:6

  192. Happy Birthday!! Greeting from North Pole, Alaska. I love your blog, but I completely understand the second guessing. I'm the same way, totally insecure about pretty much everything. Not sure why, but I am. I blog at tarainwonderland.typepad.com. I love to craft because I love to create things.

(not to mention a fellow homeschooler;) I hope you have a super happy BIRTHDAY!
I've tried quite a few of your tutorials and I love them, my husband has even complimented me on them, in which case I gush about your blog:) Now I'm just waiting until we can afford a sewing machine because I so can't wait to try your sewing tutorials! and I like to hint this to him every now and then;)

  194. Happy Birthday, Disney! I love that you love the Lord. So do I. Your homeschool tidbit really encouraged my heart. I am a homeschool mom of five - homeschooled em all for nearly 20 years. I'm done now and have time for crafting and reading craft blogs. Yours is one of my faves - I follow 6 or 7, and especially love my Christian sister bloggers. You're a dear. May God richly bless you and your precious fam.
