A Quick Jaunt to the Emerald City

Recently I got the chance to head back over to western WA and visit a very dear friend/bridesmaid/favorite barista of mine.  I was gone for three days, and it was the first time I've ever left Paige for anywhere near that long, so I almost had a heart attack. But! It was so. much. fun. See my face?
I should tell you that aside from my faith in God, there are a few little things in life that I am pretty passionate about:
Rainy days,
The superiority of Apple computers to all other pc's,
Creating things and...
Starbucks coffee.

Being an employee of the latter, my friend took me up to Seattle where we visited the Starbucks headquarters.

We also checked out the very first store ever opened at Pike Place...

Where these guys were playing on the sidewalk--I love live music!
(And you bet your booties I gave that mermaid a tankini. 'Cause I don't care who you are, that's just scandalous!)

There was no shortage of live music in Seattle. It was awesome! These guys cracked me up...
But my favorite was "Emery Carl". Seriously, who can do that??
And, well, the boys in the white skirts kind of scared me...but it was a cool photo.

Also at the beautiful market, the fish man was kind enough to throw a fish for us. Why this is a big deal, I may never know. I just smiled and thanked him anyway! :o)

The scenery in the city is just so breathtaking.

If everyone were nice, and there was no such thing as second-hand smoke, I would be living here.

People-watching and checking out the fun, funky styles...

Going for the occasional shoe-shine. You know.

And most of all, seeing old friends. Which is the best part about being there. :O)

Not the greatest photo ever, but...my favorite one of the trip. I love grey-blue water. It just feels like home.
Keep your tropical beaches, I just want clouds and a sailboat!

(One of my favorite songs, which suits the occasion perfectly! :o) )

Anyway, I hope that didn't bore you to tears. But if you've never been to Seattle, there's an itty-bitty preview of the beautiful city. You should try to make it one of these days. :O)

I've got some refashions coming up, so I'll see you soon! Hope you all had a great weekend!
Love,
-Disney

  1. You must have picked a good time to visit (I live in Portland) and both here and there have had nothing but yucky rain for centuries, it seems. Love your pics. I'm going on June 3rd, but I think torrential downpours are in the forecast :(

  2. So much fun! :D I'm sure Paige missed you a lot & must've been really amazed looking at all these lovely pictures! :)

  4. those guys arent wearing skirts... two of them are wearing white mundu, a traditional sarong-type cloth worn by men in south india. I'm sure the red skirt-wearer was definitely female.

...must not be long after they came back from India.

p.s. loved your trip photos.. you make seattle look so interesting!

  7. I'm glad that you had a wonderful time! Old friends are a blessing to be cherished.

I've never been to Seattle, but I've always thought that Washington is my kind of place. I love the rain, the cooler weather, and then coast! My sister is considering a college in Seattle, and as much as I don't want her to be so far away...I guess it's a good excuse to visit!

  11. Disney - I LOVE that black and white photo of Seattle through the tree branches with the couple pushing the stroller - I so wish that was MY little family, because that would be hanging as art in my house stat! Too bad you can't track that little family down to give them the photo, it's just so great.

  16. I live right across the Puget Sound from Seattle (Port Orchard) and can literally drive 15 minutes and hop on a ferry and go right to Seattle, but never do. I love love LOVE Pike's place and lots of other awesomely good Seattle stuff, but everytime I go to Seattle, something bad, uncomfortable or just plain weird happens to me or the people I'm with. Not to make it sound like a scary place, just that I think I have bad luck :(

  17. Aurora: Haha, that's sad! I'm sorry you've had such bad luck there. My husband grew up in PO, and my sister lives there now, so I know it well!

  18. Disney, it looks like you had so much fun! It is hard to leave the kiddo for that long! The longest I've been away from mine were the 4 days we were visiting Moses lake! It was nice, but by the end of it I wanted to see them SO bad.

  19. OMGoodness Disney! I cracked up when I saw that tankini and then read that you drew it on...scandalous indeed!! So cute!

  20. I was born in Seattle but grew up in Sequim. My best friend and I would jaunt out to Seattle every few months for a Saturday full of people watching and Texas sized donuts at Pike's Place... and once, the fish throwers invited us to *work* with them. So we did. Big claim to fame right there. ;)

  21. I love that you gave the mermaid a tankini! *favorite*

  22. After the first picture I started humming "Hello Seattle," loved the surprise of seeing the video at the end! Love that song, and my little brother lives in Seattle right now so it was great to see some wonderful pictures. :) It's been great to see you drop in a little more often!

  28. Oh, I love Seattle! We visited Pike's Place Market last Christmas on our way to visit my parents in Oregon. There was an old (possibly homeless) man standing on one of the corners with a sign that read, "Kissing Lessons: With tongue $2, Without tongue $3." Hilarious and creepy at the same time!

  29. I would love to visit the first Starbucks! So jealous.

(And because my brother works at Starbucks I must say that she's a siren not a mermaid. But yes she is rather scandalous.) :P

  32. Marissa: HAHAHA!! That is awesome
Anon: That's right! I actually had written "siren" originally, but I thought "no one's going to know what that is!"-guess I was wrong! :o)

  33. LOL!! I had to go back 3 times to find the tankini!
Anyways, UI'm from Northwest Florida and my hubby is from Seattle. Evertime I go there it's cold and would LOVE to go when it's warm at least once! Won't happen this year because we're going up in the winter again, (sigh).

  34. so was there a lot of mean people smoking there? ;)I was confused by the "if everyone were nice and there was no such thing as secondhand smoke..." comment.

Looked like a lovely trip though!

  35. Alisa: Yes! My lungs were aching after about half an hour. And there was a lot of swearing. :O/ But we were in a busy area! I'm sure not all parts of the city are like that.

  36. Wow! That makes me so excited to go visit my husband's sister and her family this October to go meet our new niece! They live about 45 minutes from Pike St Market...

  37. Thanks for the cute post. I love Seattle! It's been a few years since my last visit, so the pictures were a great reminder.

My sister in law lives in Seattle and we visited there 3 years ago. I love Pike market! It's a great city. Lucky it was so much fun because we had to go through an 18 hours flight to get there...

    :)

  42. I'm so glad you had fun in our city. We love living here. You must have been in a bad area with the smokers and mean people (they are all out-a-towners certainly) I'm extra glad you got to see the sun while you were here, but the city is especially great when its sunny. Thanks for sharing your adventures!

  43. Thank You for the beautiful pictures of Seatlle !!! I love this city, I lived there for one year as an Au Pair 14 years ago... I had such a good time...

  44. Aww, the city of my childhood. I love Seattle... but as much as I love an occasional rainy day, I don't care for constant gray skies (which is the main reason I no longer live there). ;)
I love Starbucks, but for all of my years living in Seattle and for as often as I find myself back there, I have yet to actually visit the original store. I've walked past it many times, but have yet to actually stop. I haven't figured out why that is.
It looks like you had a fun trip!
