In the Bag: A Parody

Do you ever see those "in her bag" articles that show what the celebrities carry around with them every day? They always have the cutest and most expensive cosmetics. Neatly organized, of course.

I'm calling this a parody, because my purse looks nothing like that. It looks a little more like....this:

I thought maybe you might want to waste ten minutes of your time checking out my purse, so that, you know, you could feel better about yours. I like to encourage and build up where I can. :o)

 First? The paper goods section:
1. Taco Del Mar punch card that I always bring with me and never use.
2. 6 weeks worth of grocery lists.
3. Free app/song cards from Starbucks. I should make a set of greeting cards out of these. That would be sweet.
4. Paige's fortune from lunch a week ago: "You are the master of every situation". If only they knew.
5. A big fatty pile of receipts for things like rice milk and iced coffees.

Next, we'll move on to the cosmetic department!
1.Hand sanitizer for when we go to public restrooms or thrift stores.
2. Faith Hill hand lotion. Smells pretty!
3. Old makeup bag that is too small and falling apart.
4. "Vegas Volt" by MAC
5. "Gotta Dash" by MAC-the only lipstick I've ever run out of.
6."Nude Attitude" By Revlon
7. The best tweezers in the world. (Also Revlon)
8. Good ol' fashioned Chapstick.
9. Pure Grace by Philosophy. I love perfume, but can never afford to buy it! This was a sample someone gave me. :o)
10. Mascara that is waaay too old, and dollar store-quality makeup brushes.
11. A brush with nasty hair in it.

 Health Food isle:
1. Sweetened dried mangos. As close to candy as I can get without my husband warning me of diabetes.
2. One of Paige's organic lollipops, in case I need to bribe on the spot.
3. Altoids. Because I usually have coffee breath.

And the essentials:
1. My favorite Coach wallet that my brother gave me a couple of years ago. (Thanks, Mark!)
2. Keys. Yes that is Tweety Bird. No, it wasn't my choice. I'm more of a Disney Princess. ;o)
3. Thumb drive that I keep forgetting to unload.
4. Phone that I actually share with my husband. Poor guy never complains about the pink case.
5. The "awesome" pens that I hide in my purse so my husband won't take them. (Don't worry, he has a stash, too.)

There you have it! All you ever wanted to know, and much. much. (too) much. more, I'm sure.

What about you? Are you a purse hoarder? Or a neat and tidy type?

Have a nice day!
Love,
Disney

  1. bahahahahaha. I love this. My brother, exes and friend bug me that I don't own a purse.. I own suitcases. Everything from my knitting to bandaids to extra shoelaces.. just short a kitchen sink.

Thank you for making me feel more normal.

  2. Yes! Finally a normal purse. I have seen these posts on other blogs, but people always seem to sort out the paper stuff/trash. Thanks for keepin it REAL!

  3. I have a Winnie the Pooh key on my keychain that wasn't my choice. It goes really nicely with my skeleton key keychain.

  4. I think your purse is quite clean...compared to mine! I usually have about 2 lbs of loose change floating around in the bottom. What a fun post :)

  5. Haha, I love this, it so closely resembles my own purse! Just by looking in my purse you can tell I am a mom, loose diapers, ends of snacks, random small toys. I also have those exact same lollipops in my purse for that exact same reason, hah!

  6. Ha! You made me feel so much... Normal? I'm glad to see i'm not the only one having so many random bills :) and grocery lists! Thanks for that refreshing post!

  8. I'm with AfterCraft - no purse! Backpack.

And this is fun. It's all in the presentation, of course. ;-)

  9. uhhh I filled my purse organizer with tons of stuff I never used but "just in case." Have an advice on the grocery list. There are many free iPhone apps out there you can use to put your grocery list on. I use "Wunderlist" & loving it. I gotta put everything on lists & reminder or I can't accomplish anything :P

    1. Apps are so handy. I shop for a lady who gives me her list over the phone and unfortunately I don't type as fast as I write. :o/

  10. My purse is worse, I think! But I no longer have the grocery lists because I use an app for that now, (There's an aqpp for that! ;))

  11. My purse is a bit more organised. I do have some papers but there all neatly folded into my planner. But I sure love the way you made this post. Its a whole new way of making a what's in my purse post. I like it.

  12. I don't know what our natural fascination with others' purses stems from, but it is amazingly universal! Good idea. Also, thanks for doing a REAL one - why do famous people's purses in magazines NEVER include one tiny scrap of paper?? I call baloney.

Also, I just wanted to say that I have been away from blogging for about a year now, and for some reason just completely quit reading those I had followed. But I'm considering coming back, and yesterday I spent a good chunk of day catching up on your blog! I just love your sweet outlook and ADORABLE little girl! Thanks for sharing yourself with us (the world)!

  13. Ha! You bag looks a bit like my bag. Except since I don't have any kids (yet) I keep a little pouch of dog treats for my little dog when she tags along. (^_^)

  14. First I love your bag. Where did you find it?

My purse is currently a clutch and a diaper bag. It's amazing what kind of trash and junk can get shoved in a clutch, until it doesn't close! And the diaper bag who knows what is in that!

  15. Lol! Great!! I'm definitely a purse hoarder like you:) My four kids ages 7 down to 8 months take up most of the room in it:) Well, THEY are not in my purse, but their stuff definitely is:) Sometimes my 4 year old gets tired of holding her purse, so her purse goes into my purse, etc etc:) Fun post! Thanks!!

  16. @Stephanie: the bag is from J. Crew. It took me months of saving babysitting money, but it's my first bag that hasn't fallen apart in two seconds. :o)

And yes! The trash accumulation is incredible. I'm going to say it's because we're all so fabulously busy and important that we just don't have time to put it in a real trash. :O)

  17. Haha!! @ Julia
Sometimes it gets so heavy that it FEELS like Paige is in mine.

  18. Purse hoarder, for sure. I just cleaned out mine this morning and found cracker crumbs, multiple old grocery lists, crayons and expired coupons. lovely.

  19. Love it! I downsized recently and that has helped my hoarding. Before that, I won a door prize at a party for having something in my purse that started with "A"......adapter.....for my breastpump.......LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh, my. Yours looks good! Mine can be a disaster sometimes. A "what's in your bag" link-up would be hilarious! : )

  21. Looks a lot like mine! except my purse is smaller with almost just as much "stuff"! lol ...also, my husband and I share a phone too! :) We're pregnant with our first child and were thinking we're going to just have to get another one when the baby comes in September--how do you make it work with one phone plus a kid?!

  22. My purse always has TONS of paper in it -- and for some reason, I always carry tweezers around, too, and they're never at home where they should be. I'm weird and tweeze my eyebrows in the car.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Er...don't really carry a "purse," more like a "tote," and I'm a hoarder so you can only imagine the mess that it is...I just cleaned it out yesterday. It was not pretty!

  24. My daughter just dumped my purse out while checking out at the grocery store. Loose M&M's, coins, candy wrappers, receipts galore, batteries, pens, and little papers were everywhere. I'm sure it was a sight watching me crouch down to pick up the "garbage" and stuff it back into my purse so could finish checking out and leave!

  25. I love that you had to divide your purse contents into categories! Here's what's in my purse: http://supermommyornot.blogspot.com/2012/07/whats-in-my-purse.html

  26. oh man, I did a post on this a year or so ago and it ended up that I had a fork and a googly eye in there. I was student teaching at the time, so literally anything went at that point in time. Thanks for the post, it was a fun one!

  27. I almost bought vegas bolt from M.A.C once but ended up getting something redder in a gloss. Have to admit that that Gotta dash has caught my eye... trip to the M.A.C store? yes!

  33. Thanks for making me feel SO much better about my purse!! I've decided that it must be MANDATORY for us to crinkle our receipts before putting them in our purses. My husband makes fun of it ALL the time!!

  34. Fun post! I am totally a purse hoarder. With 4 kids in tow, I can hardly get out of the grocery store alive let alone keep my purse organized! The funny thing is I carry a purse that is tiny, like 6"x6"x2". And it is so full of receipts and lists that I can never find my keys when leaving the store. I JUST bought a nice big one from Ross though and now I'm inspired to organize it and start using it!

  35. I agree, this is a fun post! I wonder about other peoples purses too. I actually got rid of my purse for a good year and only carried a little wristlet purse. It would only fit my cards, cash, tiny cell phone and some lipgloss. I have to say it was liberating not to carry my whole house in my purse but I was always forgetting something or other. I have gone back to my good old purse and it feels nice haha.

I think I'll do a post like this too! Thanks for the fun read!

  36. I laughed so hard at this; this is so my purse, down to the Kay Jeweler brochure that I've been carrying around for a month, meaning to get my wedding band cleaned and checked up (I'm assuming that's what that is... looks just like mine, only a bit less crumpled than mine).

    Love this!

  37. My husband enjoyed this post and found it very informative! Apparently he's always wondered what other women carry around in those "big old bags".
